I am seeking information about my JOHNSON ancestors who evidently moved to Polk County from neighboring counties about 1800. Other researchers have hinted that some of the JOHNSONs were pretty tough customers, so I am prepared for anything. Can anybody tell me about the Johnsons of Polk County of this time period? I suspect my ancestors (Wm. born @ 1785, Joseph born @ 1787, and Aaron Johnson born @ 1792) were the children of Edward Johnson listed in the 1790 census of Rutherford Co. living near the families of James Sr. and James Johnson Jr.; and also listed in the 1800 census of Buncombe Co. living near the families of John, Jacob, Nathaniel, and Noble Johnson. I have heard from researchers of Noble's descendents, but they know nothing about these other Johnsons other than James. One researcher says that Edward is buried in Transylvania County, and others say that a number of Johnsons moved into the hills of Polk County. My Johnsons married into the YOUNG family of Greenville District SC and all moved to KY by 1820. I have pretty good records of them in KY, but little in the Carolinas. This surname is so tough to research because it is so common. Does anybody know about the Johnsons of Polk County between 1780 and 1830? Bruce Nichols Mapmaker3@aol.com
