I have the 1850 Rutherford County census (Polk county was not formed until 1855) It lists two Lankford families, but neither has a John Walker or either one of these names. The two families are: Nathan and Elizabeth who were 60 and 48 in 1850, with children Elizabeth, Tibby, Robert, Narcissa, Lettia, Manurvia, Columbus, Martin, Nathan, Elizabeth, Harvy, and Mary. the other family is William and Nancy, aged 43 and 35. Children Nancy, Margarett, Curtis, Milly, Lucinda, and Robert. Both families were born in North Carolina and both were living in the Polk district. Maybe this can give you some leads.
I am researching primarily the Arledge and Holbert families, but have a few Lankfords in my database who have married in to related families. If you know how these Lankfords are interconnected, please let me know: Elizabeth Lankford (1791-1860, bur. Friendship Baptist Church in Saluda) m. Andrew Thompson (1790-1878) Amanda Suzannah Lankford (c. 1842-aft 1890) m. Richard Nepton Johnson on 23 Nov 1866 in Polk County. Also buried Friendship Church. Caroline Lankford m. William Newman (b.c.1830) Narcissa Lankford m. William Newman (b.c.1830) (I'm assuming that these two were sisters) Nathan Lankford m. Elizabeth Martindale, with daughter Susan Lankford b.c.1825 who married Jonathan Newman (1824-1901) This Nathan and Elizabeth are obviously the couple listed in the 1850 Rutherford census cited by Liz with ages 60 and 48, which puts approx. birth years as Nathan c 1790 and Elizabeth c 1802. If anyone has information on ARLEDGE or HOLBERT families, please let me know. Thanks!
