    1. [NCPOLK-L] Polk County Cemeteries
    2. Hi Pat: There is an old Splawn graveyard. I don't know that I could find it again but maybe some folks who currently live in Polk County could. It is located at the top of the hill behind Polk Central School on Rt #9. There are lots of graves there but only two tombstones: that of William Splawn (1800-1884) and his second wife Jane Waldrop. Somewhere in this house I have pictures of the stones. It seems to me that we stopped at the first house on the northwest side of the school and then we walked a long way up the hill and through the woods. Also on my father's farm, now developed in Columbus, is an Old Tallent graveyard. There are no tombstones and maybe only two or three graves. They belonged to members of the L.L. Tallent family who owned this land before us. I don't know who owns that particular lot now. It is on Meadowlark Lane. And I don't know if anyone alive knows who was buried there and I don't know when the burials took place. Daddy bought that property in 1951 and my child hood memory is that those were old graves then. And I've been looking for years for an old Ponder graveyard. I have a feeling there are no stones, where ever it is. I'm looking for a Hezkiah Ponder probably died about 1840 and the also for the first wife of Ransom Ponder. Ransom and his second wife (Margaret Splawn Ponder) are buried at Mill Spring Baptist. Virginia Splawn Green VaGreen100@aol.com
