Posted on: Polk County, NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Polk/188 Surname: Green, Biggerstaff, Bickerstaff ------------------------- Looking for a William Green, possibly from old Tryon County. Here's what I know: He married a Bickerstaff or Biggerstaff, also possibly from Tryon. They had a son, John, born in Abbeville, SC in 1790. About 1800, they moved to Jackson Co., GA. Son John married Nancy Betts Jones and went with her family and others to Conecuh Co., AL about 1817. At some point, William went back to South Carolina, and reportedly died in Sandy Plains, NC, but I don't know whether it was the Sandy Plains in Polk or Cleveland County. William is supposedly descended from a Robert Green who received a land grant from the English Crown for services rendered to them. The grant was in the area where the Battle of Cowpens was fought. The family was probably Irish. Would like to correspond with you if you have information about this family.
