1. [NCPOLK] Owens
2. Here is some Owens material: I have two lines; neither have I traced very well: the "M" Owens daughter of Raleigh Owens who married Ransom Ponder and an Owens line that connects with William Hicks. Here are some of them: David Owens b. 1806 married Melinda Greene Raleigh Owens with a daughter "M" Owens who married Ransom Ponder (she died before 1850) Hampton Owens married Sarah Ponder Richard Owens b. 20 dec. 1842-d. 11 Feb. 1927 (perhaps son of Hampton Owens) Richard Owens married 26 April 1866, Larceny Green (13 June 1847-1 march 1926) My dad called them Uncle Dick and Aunt Larceny but I have never been able to prove that they were even cousins! Thomas Owens was a Revolutionary Soldier, who died in Rutherford County. His wife Elizabeth applied for a pension, stating that she was Elizabeth McCarry (McCrary); Thomas died March 27, 1836. Estate settlement shows the following children: 1. Elizabeth b. 23 Jan. 1786; married John Pitts DePriest (M. 11/13/1813) 2. William b. 12 Jan. 1788 3. Raymond b. 2 Jan. 1790; d. Alabama married Susannah (Spencer?) 4. Joseph b. 22 April 1792 5. Mary b. 2 April 1794; dead by 1837 6. John b. 27 Jan. 1797 married 1818 Elizabeth Robbins (died in TN) 7. Jonas b. ca. 1798 married (1) Rachel; (2) Sarah 8. James 9. Sarah b. 1800 not married 10. Thomas b. c. 1796 married Sophia (in Rutherford co in 1850) 11. Alfred 12. David 13. I have a little bit of information. ==== NCPOLK Mailing List ==== >> Earliest know Owens was John Owens, who had at least one one son, John, born about 1798 who married Lavinia Parker, born about 1796. They had at least three children: Jesse Roland Owens, born 1822; John Dick Owens, born 1823, Thomas Owen, born 1838. I have heard that they had 15 children, but this is all I have. These families lived in Transylvania County, NC and were shown in the 1870 census. I do not descend from the Owens line. John Dick Owens married Mary Malinda Reid, an ancestor aunt. There are MANY descendants from these Owenses. Linda

1. [NCPOLK] Marriage Bonds
2. I have created a web page for Marriage Bond Index of NC 1741-1868 marriagebondofNC http://marriagebondofnc.homestead.com/Home.html This page is not complete and will not be complete for several months. There are over 8,000 Bride and 8,000 Groom microfilm pages that list all marriage bonds for all counties of NC. I will add new surnames weekly so please don't get discouraged if you do not see the surname you are looking for. I have discovered that once you obtain the Index page that you are looking for it is easier to contact the NC Archives and get a copy of the original Marriage Bond. If you would like a specific Surname added to the page you may send me an e-mail and I will put that name on my list to add ASAP. All I ask is that you send one e-mail per Surname. You may send as many Surnames as you like, but please do so separately so that I may easily alphabetize my list that I take with me. In the Subject area put MB of NC (this will get my attention) In the body of the e-mail type the surname you would like added in ALL CAPS. Best of Luck to you all in your search for your ancestors. 3. Posted on: Polk County, NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Polk/159 Surname: ------------------------- No...sorry Betty, I don't have anything on John & Martha Thompson in the 1910 Polk County Census nor any mention of a Henrietta. My Thompsons came exclusively from Silver Creek as best I can render...apparently very few still remain there and it appears that at some point they must have relocated almost lock, stock & barrel to Tennessee. I have William Thompson, John G. Thompson, Doctor Hardy Thompson, John H. Thompson and their marriages with the Arledges and McGraws. They apparently have a strong connection to upper SC as well. Sorry again and thanks.

3. Hello, this may be too ancient to be of use to you, and I am writing from memory, which sometimes isn't too good, but here goes. Thomas LYLE, will dtd 1835, Rutherford Co. NC John LYLE/LILES, will dtd ca 1850, Rutherford Co., NC, m. Agnes HESTER, who died ca 1850, both buried behind the restored LYLES home at Sandy Plains, Polk Co., NC. I believe on the 1850 census, Rutherford Co., NC, that you will find Michael HESTER, whose wife was Joanna MELTON, of Granville Co., NC. Joanna MELTON was dec'd. She had a brother whose will is in Granville Co. NC, I believe, and it is wonderful in that it lists all of his survivors, he being a single man. I hope I haven't made a factual mistake here. 3. Linda, There is a great website for looking through cemetaries for ancestors that includes Rutherford County and Polk County. I am not suggesting that your birth mother is in the cemetary, but you will get clues as to the sir name. Also have you posted a message on your biological sir name on the ancestors.com "Hammond" page? If you need help getting to these sites, just email me back and I will give you the websites addresses.
