There is a map that shows the counties of North Carolina at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/map1.html Chowan is bounded on the east by Perquimans County and on the west by the Chowan River. Across the Chowan River (first bridged in the early 1930s) is Bertie, beyond that Martin, and beyond that Edgecombe.
