    1. Re: [NCPERQUI] PERRY family or families

    3. A quick scan of my notes indicates I have not come across your Elizabeth Perry. I have a Patsy (or Patsey) Perry, born 20 Nov (or 2 Oct) 1784, daughter of Abner Perry and Peggy Burns, who married Robertson (or Robinson) White in Pasquotank county on 11 Oct 1815. I have never looked at the Whites: would you know if he is related to your Reuben White. If your Elizabeth Perry was from Perquimans county, she would probably have been a Quaker. I am not sure about the likelihood of a Quaker woman marrying firstly a plantation owner (and thus almost certainly a slave owner) and then a Methodist Episcopal minister - although my wife's grandmother shifted from Quaker to Methodist. A colored woman who sometimes worked for her had a forebear who had been freed by one of her ancestors when he bought a farm that included slaves. The Quakers who left this area did so because of their opposition to slavery - and mostly moved to the free territory of the Northwest, not deeper into the South.
