There is a softbound book called "Old Albemarle County North Carolina Perquimans Preceinct Court Minutes, 1688 thru 1738, by Weynette Parks Haun, 243 Argonne Dr., Durham, NC 27704, copyright 1980. You may have seen this book. It was originally transcribed from: Microfilm C.077.30001, North Carolina Dept. of Archives and History, Division of Archives and Manuscripts, Raleigh, NC. This book states that every effort was made to present an exact duplication of these records. These are not trial transcripts, I doubt you will find any such thing, but give the outcome of the court decisions. James Oates is mentioned about 35 times in the index. Most of these mentions are the opening sentence stating "At a court holden in Piquemons Precinct at the house of James Oats on-----" If you have not already seen this book I would suggest you try to get a hold of a copy for research. There are other Oates in the index and also entries for a John and Jonathon Bateman.
