After I responded to your letter, I got my material out and reread it. I researched this family a bit serveral years ago and must say that it is confusing, there appear to be three Richards in a row. The latest being Richard who married Elizabeth Barnes, b. Oct 1705, I think he is the son of Richard and Anne Garrett. (that marriage comes from HISTORY OF PERQUIMANS COUNTY, page 232, "Chesten , Richard maried Anne Garrett (sister of Daniel and WM. and had issue: Sarah born 17 May 1689 and Daniel born 3 May 1692 Daniel (again) born May 1 1697) In the EAQG Richard and Ann's children are Sarah born 3/13/1689,Daniel 3-17-1692 and Richard born 3-10-1687 I also have a marriage for a Richard and An from the EAQG 1711, 12, 2. Richard, Cooper, Albemarle Co m. Ann Dorman, relict of Richard. (this Ann had a daguhter Hanah who married in 1714 so this marriage was probably in later life. my guess) In another record on the same page he is called Richard Cheston JR. I have a copy of Richard Cheston and Ann Dorman's marriage and I see no Oates as witnesses. In the HISTORY OF PERQUIMANS COUNTY, page 333, Cheaston, Richard , will 22 Nov 1715 names son Richard (2) and wife Anne and grand son Daniell Layton. Next Anne Chesson will names sons John James & JOshua and sister Esbell Garrett, ex Daniel and william (seems to me this not any of the Annes who married a Richard as no sons named Richard are mentioned. This book goes on to say James chesson son of John and Elizabeth, born 8 Nov 1675 married first Sarah and 2nd Anne who was mentioned in his will dated 19 May 1729 naming sons John and James and wife Anne. This is probably written in a very confusing way, but it is very confusing to me! As I say all these mentions of Richard and An. It seems to me that the Ann of the will abstract must have outlived her husband but who that was I don't know. I probably have not been helpful at all, I am sorry.
