Can anyone give me some advice or direction as to how to find the Chapanoke town/area outside of Hertford? I am trying to determine the location of the farm land that belonged to one of my ancestors. Information that I have from obituaries and such say that the family lived in Chapanoke. I drove through what I thought might be the area (near the old Oak Grove church?) once on a trip and there doesn't seem to be much there except farming. On the 1870 census, it lists the household in the Parkville District. I wrote down some information about the land from the will of my ggggrandfather, James Towe, who owned the property. The will shows how it was divided out among his widow and children. The description is "land lies on the west side of the main road from Chapanoke to Woodville in Perquimans County. "the James Towe Home Farm" adjoining land of Dr. T. D. Martin, Calvin Hendrix, and others" I would love to find this land and photograph it for my geneology records, but don't have a clue as to how to go about finding it. Do you have any suggestions or advice? Also, can anyone tell me if there's a place I can obtain a map of Perquimans County with major/nonmajor roads? Any advice would be much appreciated!!! Thank you! --Holly Schoenhoff Blacksburg, VA
