    3. District returns from the 1745 poll tax are now up at: http://perqtax.homestead.com/ In addition, the 1791 page has been modified with bonus 1790 returns for Hertford district. The 1791 Hertford documents are damaged and incomplete, so the intact 1790 originals are intended to compensate. Harold

I'm going to revisit the microfilm one more time in hopes of finding reasonably complete material from ca. 1745-48 and ca. 1777-82 in suitable quality for scanning. Harold

Two generations before him, one of my ancestors married a Cherrokee woman. There also used to be a Cherokee grave yard between my Grandfather's property, and The Riddick farm, which disappeared in the mid 1890's according to my Grandfather. >What tribe? and does anyone >have some sort of census for >Perquimans county. > >Thank you, >Marcus >________________________________________________________________ >YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! >Juno now offers FREE Internet Access! >Try it today - there's no risk! 3. Two short tithables lists from ca. 1695 plus property tax lists from 1791 are now posted. The latter were acquired from microfilm so the quality isn't perfect (still readable, though). http://perqtax.homstead.com/ Thanks for all the kind words in private e-mails! I'm looking on the microfilm for something nice from around 1765 now and will then give the scanner a little rest. Harold

    1. [NCPERQUI] 1754 militia roll up
    2. Harold Colson
    3. The 1754 militia muster roll of Perquimans is now up on my tax lists site. Yes, this is not really a tax list, but it is a great document that serves much the same purpose, genealogically. Think of it as a de facto 1754 census of the adult white males. Over 350 names are included, and the county Quakers are named in their own militia companies. http://perqtax.homestead.com/ Harold

    3. Harold, Thanks for all your hard work in putting the Perquimans tax lists on line. 2. Le Bateman
    3. William WYATT or WIATT died in Perquimans County in 1687, is there anyone who could do a cemetery lookup to see where he might be buried. The lived in Berkley Parish, Albemarle Precinct I believe. I also need deed lookups from 1670-1686 to see if there might be refferrence to family members like his siblings. I do not know when he first appeared in Perquimans County. He was from Virginia Gloucester or surrounding counties. 1. [NCPERQUI] Quaker's and Slave's
    2. There was also a practice in Perq. Co, where the Sons were given land and the Daughters were given slaves as part of her Dower. There were also laws against the freeing of slaves, There are many wills written in Perq. which gave slaves their freedom and sometimes land and even the Plantation with someone, usually Quaker, to oversee them that they were not disturbed in their freedom, William Feltons will is an example. and there were many more. So if they were a leading member of the Quaker Church and their wife inherited several slaves, then what? Selling them to someone who may mistreat them would be even worse. Richard R.

    3. In the late 1700's many of the Quaker's in the Carolina's still had slaves, if they could afford them. This was the era when the practice of owning slaves was falling into disfavor with the Quaker's, but some were slow to part with them. Donna C.
