    2. Joy Roos
    3. I have been looking at the 1800 and 1810 census for Perquimans Co., NC and have discovered that Reuben Perry may have had children with Dorcas Chappell, his second wife. These children are not mentioned in his will dated 1839. They are not mentioned in the Quaker records as Dorcas Chappell was not a Quaker. They had two girls and one boy living with them. One girl was born between 1791 and 1800, one girl and boy between 1800 and 1810. If they are his children, they would have probably died before 1839. They also had an unknown female under 26 living with them at the time of the 1810 census, the last two children may have been hers. Joy In Wisc.

    2. I received another E-Mail from the Desc, of another unknown (to my files) Rogerson. This researcher has Extensive Files in the STALLINGS side of her family and has her research indicating Daniel Stallings b. 1790 d. 1837 perq. married an Elizabeth Rogerson, b. 1803. d 1894 in Perq. This Elizabeth is not from our group as I can tell but most likely from the Josiah/Jesse Rogerson group which lived on the Gates/ Perq border. If you get a chance at the FRC meeting, see if you can locate anything on this Eliz. Rogerson and Daniel Stallings, they appear to have a thousand Desc. This Researcher is Elsie Sexton, now Richardson, Her E Mail addy; JRichar385 Thanks a bunch if you can help her or me, as I have nothing on a Document to connect Elizabeth so far, but still looking. I was not aware of a Rogerson /Stallings marriage Connection but she has the Burial Location and info in Gates Co. Richard

    3. Lisa, Finding Elwood's parents may be tough. Your best bet is probably at the State Archives/Library. 1880 Perquimans Co, Fed Census, Belvidere Twp, pg. 3, 2 Jun 1880: 23/23 Smith Timothy 46 Farmer, Hannah 27 Wife Keeping House, Lane Elias Scott 6 Son, Lane Nancy 48 m-i-l At Home. Lisa, this man is almost 20 years older than Hannah - only 2 years younger than her mother. I wouldn't want to bet he's Elias' father. It's not impossible, though. The really odd thing is that he seems to have NO other children, unless they are grown and gone. You might be able to get some family information from his military pension records *if* he filed for a pension, or if Hannah did. 1890 SMITH TIMOTHY Perquimans County NC pg. 001 Belvidere Township Ed. 133, NC 1890 Veterans Schedule http://216.88.32.142/cwss/ Smith, Timothy, Union Infantry, Rank in: PVT, Rank out: PVT 1st Regiment, North Carolina Infantry, Co. 3. Timothy Smith and Hannah do end up with some other children, Cora Alethiea Smith and a John Smith. Yes, I know the ages are strange, but also, Elias (son of Tim and Hannah) married a lady 13 or 15 years younger than him. Strange. Thanks for the input though. --- "Grace A. 2. No, not better than the Archives and the State Genealogy library, which are in the same building. The Archives and courthouses are the best for primary research.

    3. If you're sure of the county, you should try the county "estates divisions" records in the Archives (also filmed by LDS). Divisions of estates papers were filed to the courts when people died without wills. They are available by surname of the deceased. Often, these documents list widow, children, other relatives of the deceased - and who got what property and money. Maybe there's a Lane estate division file ca. 1830-1850s that could be for Elwood's father? See a sample Perquimans 1821 estate file at: http://perqcolson.homestead.com/files/gilbert_1821estate.jpg Harold On Sat, 14 Jul 2001, Lisa Adams wrote: > Elwood Lane born abt 1825 in NC. 2. Lisa Adams
    3. Grace, Here is the outline and I hope someone can offer information because at this point I'm not sure how I will ever find who his parents are. Elwood Lane born abt 1825 in NC. Married Nancy Toathed in 1853 and they had Hannah Lane in 1854. She married Timothy Smith in 1878 which is after the birth of her son, Elias Scott Lane. It is thought Smith was the father. Elias was born Feb 22, 1875. Hannah and Timothy had two other children, Cora Alethie (married a Boyce) and John A. Smith. According to my grandfather, Amos Lane, he thought John Smith was mentally challenged. Anyway, Elias married Annie Hendricks in August, 1904. Annie is the daughter of Thomas Hendricks and Elizabeth Benton. Annie and Elias had 11 children (she was born in 1888, quite a bit younger than Elias) Elwood Thomas, Aubrey, Clifford, Nella Mae, Lloyd Sanford, Amos Wodrow, Robert Lee, Annie Elizabeth, Curtis Elias, Edna and Edgar. Some of these children are alive now living in Chesapeake, but either do not know anything or they REFUSE to admit they know anything. My dad and aunt say that Annie called Elias Mr. Lane and that she was ashamed of the fact he was born prior to the marriage. Who knows, not me, I can't find the answers, do you have them? If you could offer any advise on how else I might find his parents. My father said the Lane line was poor (and I have verified this with a Perquimans County Historian/Genealogist that has written things for the archives) so wills are not going to be an option. Any ideas anyone has, I will be flying to NC in 2 weeks and if I can find his parents that will make all the difference in my trip. --- "Grace A.
