    2. Joyce, I looked through my other sources I have on hand and could not find anything else for your Capps family other than the 1790 census which someone else provided. Will keep my eye peeled for Cason. Cindy

    3. Hi, I liked your information. Thanks for posting it. I have traced my mother's family very easily. Her family were Lutherans. They went to the same church for over a hundred years. I wrote and ask for records giving them last names. It took almost a year for them to get time to compile the information I asked for. When they did answer - WOW!! They were able to connect every person in my mother's family and give me the place in Germany where they all migrated from! The wait was worth it! They sent me births, deaths, baptisms, confirmation, marriages of every person. It would have taken me many, many years to figure all of this out and many $'s in research. (Mother's family were Stubbs (from England), Dhalcamps and Reichs from Baden, Germany. The church was St. John's Luthern Church in Springfield, Illinois. I do not live in Springfield, Illinois. The only reason I am mentioning that fact is because I do not have access to those particular church records except for the family I ask for information about. Also, where does your Jones line go? The reason that I am asking is because I have some pages out of my 4 greats grandfather's Bible and the name of Thomas Jones is written in it. This was William R. Capps, born in Orange Co., N.C. on Feb. 14, 1792, and migrated to Carroll Co., Tennessee. The Bible record was from Tennessee. Joyce

    3. Hi Carolyn, Don't feel so bad - you have always been kind enough to help me track my brick wall - Capps/Cason. I am very appreciative of that. Also, your 50's is a whole new ball game, friend. I have the same problem you are facing - I would rather be in my 30's, or 40's again, however, that is vanity speaking - God's plan includes being 50 and above! Joyce

    3. Thank you, Stephen and Harold...now I'm embarrassed...haven't spent enough time with Job! I should have followed my first impression and checked the scriptures, but I was so sure I'd never heard that name in them...will do better! Carolyn "Stephen J. 3. Stephen Edwards, your "little thoughts" carry great merit. I have done a lot of searching for my Brinkleys of Nansemond Co. VA, early in the VA State Library by way of computer. The online search lets you see some of the original records they have. Many of the land records for Nansemond, VA are actually located in Gates Co, NC. Other families tied to mine that seem to show up also are Roundtree, Riddick, Griffin, Eley and some of these go into Perquimans also. Take some time and surf by there if you get a chance. 3. KEZIAH f Biblical, English "cassia" (Hebrew), from the name of the spice tree. In the Old Testament Keziah was a daughter of Job found in Behind the Name -the Etymology and History of first names http://www.behindthename.com/

    3. Is anyone searching the surname NURNEY? They had roots in Whitehat and Parkville area of Perquimans CO., NC. They came from Nandsmond Co., VA. There the trail grows cold, probably because of burned records. Bill

    3. Probably from the Bible. Kezia was the 2d of Job's daughters (Job 42:14). ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carolyn Chappell Nelson" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 13, 2002 2:16 PM Subject: [NCPERQUIMANS] Kesiah > Was Kesiah (many spellings) ever a nickname for another given name? > Does anyone know what the name means or from what it derives? > > Kesiah ELLIOTT md. 3. I 'm just going to chime in few little thoughts, those of you who are having trouble with early ancestors in NC might try looking at the Va Calvalier Vols....... the line between VA/NC was not there early on and what is now NC was once VA.......you might also contact the VA History Room in the Portsmouth VA Library, the "resident historian" is a wealth of information and suggestions. And look at the on-line University, College and Community Libraries, most have a search engine.....put in family name, or comunity name or church name etc. And if your ancestors lived close to water access, navigatible rivers, sounds and the Chesapeke Bay, look at those nearby states....roads were terrible, but the waterways carried people and goods.....I've found records from the top of the Chesapeke Bay to Wilmington NC and one other little thought, look at any or all church records in the area your ancestors lived......surprisingly they were a lot more eccumenical than one would think Lindy Overton, Halstead, Sawyer, Anderson, Huske,Gregory, Wiley, Jones, Watts.....NC Smith, Wilburn, Mathews...VA

    3. The census has National cds that you search first for any name you are looking for, then it tells you which 'area' cd to put in for the one(s) you choose from the index. Or, if you know exactly which state they were in, you can just put in that cd and search for them.
