    1. Re: [NCPERQUI] The Trueblood Family in America 1682-1963
    2. Hi Gordon, I wish someone had published a book on my White family. This is so wonderful for all Trueblood researchers and those who just want a family history. I have ordered five microfilm from the FHC and hopefully they come in soon. It has been a couple of weeks and they called and said they were tracking them. The FHC is only open on Thursdays so I am hoping they come in this week and I can go up next week. These are wills, deeds etc. I looked at them years ago but now that I have more information I hope to find Barbary. We shall see. We recently acquired a book at the genealogy library called "Perry of London" by Jacob M. Price. These Perrys are my family especially the ones way back. Macaijah Perry was a cousin of my line. But it sort of verified the info I had found on the family. Have you ever used a website called footnote.com? Supposely it is better than ancestry. I tried the free version with no luck but others have great results. Our weather is beautiful but the heat is coming. We just finished having the outside of the house painted and it looks so nice. You don't realize how badly it needs it until you see the fresh paint. Our oldest daughter is coming for memeorial day weekend which will be fun and relaxing. There have been no other publications of the book since then. It remains a classic and the most inclusive work (285 pages) on the Trueblood Family between 1682 and 1963. 1. [NCPERQUI] Potato Festival May 15th
    2. Mike & Diane
    3. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Elizabeth Evans Cahoon & Cross Phone: (757) 420-6944 ext. 108 eevans@cahoonandcross.com North Carolina Potato Festival Soars to New Heights May 15 in Elizabeth City, N.C. Aviation is the theme of this year’s popular event (Elizabeth City, N.C., April 26, 2010) – With a nod to North Carolina’s distinction as the “first in flight,” and its burgeoning aeronautics industry, aviation is the theme of the North Carolina Potato Festival, ready for take-off May 15 along the downtown waterfront in Elizabeth City. “Aviation has played such a large role in Elizabeth City’s history,” explained Tim Williams, chairman of both the North Carolina Potato Festival and Elizabeth City Downtown Inc., the festival’s sponsoring organization. “From the deployment of blimps that combated enemy submarines during World War II to the aerostat test flights underway today, Elizabeth City has launched many aviation-related events.” Elizabeth City is also home to the nation’s largest U.S. Coast Guard base, Air Station Elizabeth City, which will be part of the festival. Aviation-themed highlights will include a U.S. Coast Guard flyover, search-and-rescue demonstrations on the Pasquotank River and special presentations throughout the day by Donner Grigsby, assistant chief engineer with NASA Langley Research Center and a popular speaker. There will also be exhibits hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard, Elizabeth City State University’s School of Aviation and TCOM, L.P., a global company with a facility in Elizabeth City devoted to aerostat and airship manufacturing. And don’t forget the spuds! The farm lands along the Albemarle Sound are among the state’s major potato-growing areas, and the festival celebrates one of Northeast North Carolina’s largest crops. “The support of the local business and agricultural community continues to grow annually, which has allowed us to expand in making this unique, fun-filled family event a success,” said Williams. “Last year, more than 12 000 people enjoyed the festival, and we are expecting more with this year’s great line up of activities.” In addition to nibbling on home-cooked fries, festival-goers will be able to: · Watch the National Potato Peeling Contest competitors peel through bushels of spuds · Sample the results of the “Anything But Fries” restaurant cook-off · Cheer on the “Little Miss Tater Tot Pageant” contestants · Watch the N.C. Governor’s Cup Moth Boat races on the Pasquotank River · Compete in potato sack races and a corn hole tournament · Shop and dine among nearly 75 food and arts and craft vendors · Mingle with members of Blackbeard’s Crew and visit a special Pirate Encampment (May 15-16) at the Museum of the Albemarle This festival will also feature an auto show, monster trucks, amusement rides and games for children, bounce houses, the Hopeline rubber duck derby, live musical entertainment and the popular “street dance” to wrap up the day’s festivities. Preceding Saturday’s events is a kick-off party on Friday, May 14 from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. At Grouper’s Restaurant. Held in appreciation of the festival’s sponsors and volunteers, the party is open to the public for a $5 admission fee. For festival information, call (252) 338-4104 or visit www ncpotatofestival.com. “This is a family festival that has something for everyone,” said Charlotte Underwood, director of the Elizabeth City Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We invite people to come for the day and spend the night!” Elizabeth City Elizabeth City is located in Northeastern North Carolina on the Intrascoastal Waterway, halfway between Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks. Known as the “Harbor of Hospitality®,” the city has six National Register Historic Districts and is home to the Museum of the Albemarle, The Center at Arts of the Albemarle, Elizabeth City State University Planetarium, Port Discover Hands-on Science Center and the nation’s largest U.S. Coast Guard base. Nature-based travelers are drawn to the area’s proximity to Dismal Swamp and the abundance of outdoor recreational offerings. For additional information, call Elizabeth City Area Convention & Visitors Bureau at 1-866-ECity-4U (1-866-324-8948) or (252) 335-5330 or visit www DiscoverElizabethCity.com Sidebar: Potatoes Are Good For You! A local legend credits Sir Walter Raleigh with the potato’s popularity overseas when English colonists found it among their explorations of the N.C Sounds area and shipped some back to England. These days, the potato is universally grown more than any other food crop. According to the N.C. Potato Association, headquartered in Elizabeth City, approximately 17,500 acres of potatoes are planted each year in the state, with the areas surrounding the Albemarle and Pamlico sounds being the major potato-producing counties. The N.C. Potato Association also notes … The average American eats 142 pounds of potatoes a year, or almost 365 potatoes per person. That’s an average of a potato a day! Contrary to the common misconception, potatoes are not high in calories. One medium sized potato contains 110 calories, while a one-cup serving of rice has 225 calories and a cup of pasta has 155. Potatoes should be eaten with their peels on! A wealth of vitamins, minerals and fiber are found in the peel. The peel also contains the flavonoid, quercitin, and chlorogenic acid – antioxidants that may protect the body against certain types of cancers and heart disease. · One medium potato with skin contains three grams, or twelve percent of the recommended daily intake of fiber. Hi all, Unfortunately I don't have access to the site that the current Speight family info is on. I have emailed Bobbi and my email bounced back so I don't know how to get up with her to have the page updated or removed. I have had a lot of people complain to me about her not responding to emails, not adding materials, not posting information they send to her, not updating files, etc. Some have given me permission to copy what they had posted on that site to add to the one I maintain (hence the message she posted to me as well as a misunderstanding when I was told she had passed away) so that the information and materials can be kept updated. All I can say is maybe something will cause her to come back to the site again and do something to it either update or delete it. Maybe you can write to Rootsweb and complain to them that the webmaster of the site: http://www rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ncperqui/ is non-responsive and the emails are bouncing and maybe they can try to get in touch with her about it. Other than that, I just don't know what to tell you to do about the info anyone has posted there. Willie, I did receive the info you sent and it is posted on the Perquimans County site that I maintain: http://www.ncgenweb us/perquimans/family/speightfamily.htm All I can say is if you or anyone else have materials you would like to share that pertain to Perquimans, Pasquotank, Chowan, or Gates Counties you can send the information directly to me at this email address or to ncgeniehunter@yahoo.com and I will get it posted as quickly as I can. If you already have info posted on the other site and would like for me to add it to the site I maintain please send me the links to the pages or send me the updated information and I will get the information added as quickly as possible. I can assure you that I will keep the information updated as long as you send me the updated info to keep it current. I have worked hard to get new materials and info added to the site that I am maintaining and I am always searching for new information, photos, materials, documents, etc to add, so please feel free to send me anything you would like to share with others and I will get it added to the site. I would also like to add some pages for brick walls something like I have added to the Duplin County site here: http://www.ncgenweb.us/duplin/brickwalls.htm These pages have assisted one researcher in busting down her brick wall and finding some long lost relatives and finding some much needed info she was looking for. You can see her story here: http://www.ncgenweb us/duplin/brickwalls/hattiejanemathwesbowen.htm So, if anyone is interested in sending in information on their brick walls please send the info to me and I will get the pages built and added to the site(s) and hopefully we can get some of your brick walls broken down as well! There are a lot of things I would love to add to the site(s), I just need your help in gathering the information to get it added. So, please consider sharing any information you have because you never know who just might have that small piece of the puzzle you are looking for that might fit with what you are looking for to break down those walls to open up a whole new branch of a family for you! As Carolyn stated I did have surgery a little over a week ago and I am still recovering from it. I am trying to work a little each day until I can sit and walk for longer periods without pain. In the meantime I am trying to work a little each day as long as I can until my knee starts cramping and screaming in pain and then I have to quit. Michael, once I am fully recovered I would like for us to tackle the cemetery in Hertford. Don is going to draw out a map to put on the site to coincide with the photos and transcription so people can find the headstones easier, so that will be a huge help as well. I haven't been able to go into a cemetery since May and I have been going through withdrawals to get back out there and get started again, so I think this will be a good chance to put this surgery to the test to see if it has really worked or not. : ) I hope to start hearing more from each of you in the near future. 3. Hi folks, I am little confused as to whom Wolfman Jack is trying to reach. I recognize that USGen web was the site mentioned in Wolfman’s note. BUT, he was trying to contact Bobbi Cutter. A little mixin’ up there somewhere There are two Perquimans websites 1. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ncperqui/ 2. http://www.ncgenweb.us/perquimans/ The first is on the Rootsweb server The second is on the USGenweb server The first’s admin is Bobbi Cutter GeVabch@earthlink.net The second’s admin is Diane Siniard ncgeniehunter@yahoo.com OK, now that we know who is the admin of which site. I think the time has come …. for answers. This is not the first time for complaints about Bobby Cutter’s [no response] issue. The rootsweb site has hardly been updated since 2007. At that time Bobbi added the unimportant phrase to bottom of the Perquimans Home Page <http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ncperqui/> “Your Host: Despite rumors from NCGenWeb, I am not deceased. Diane, please quit making copies of my files. It is unethical. <mailto:GeVabch@earthlink.net> Bobbie Cutter 2007” To contrast, since 2007, Diane has worked with folks to photograph many cemeteries in Perquimans County. In 2 years, she has added more data to the USGen web site than that of which had been added to the Rootsweb site since its inception. Bobbi, My apologies in advance, ownership of the Rootsweb site is not a matter of “squatters rites” you cannot sit in the position and “do nothing” If the position is too much…. be respectful and relinquish. Also, please remove the blurb at the bottom of the homepage. It is sad to see you have left it there for so long. In my very humble opinion, Diane started the new site because of no response, slow response, and failure to update the Rootsweb site. The files are not “yours” they belong to the contributors who freely share their genealogical data of Perquimans County. As site admin, your responsibility is to respond to queries and post new/updated data.
