    3. Hi John Have you found any evidence of A Sarah Chappell marrying a JAcob Perry? I descend from Jacob son of Reuben Perry and have a lot of Quaker information on his descendants. There is some speculaton on a second marriage for him in Indiana Quaker records. I have not yet found any proof of this marriage. There is also some question of how many Reuben Perrys there actually were on succession. I believe there were only two, but some say three. I also have descendant lines on JAcob's siblings and uncles. Joy in Wisc. Joy in Wisc. 3. A quick scan of my notes indicates I have not come across your Elizabeth Perry. I have a Patsy (or Patsey) Perry, born 20 Nov (or 2 Oct) 1784, daughter of Abner Perry and Peggy Burns, who married Robertson (or Robinson) White in Pasquotank county on 11 Oct 1815. I have never looked at the Whites: would you know if he is related to your Reuben White. If your Elizabeth Perry was from Perquimans county, she would probably have been a Quaker. I am not sure about the likelihood of a Quaker woman marrying firstly a plantation owner (and thus almost certainly a slave owner) and then a Methodist Episcopal minister - although my wife's grandmother shifted from Quaker to Methodist. A colored woman who sometimes worked for her had a forebear who had been freed by one of her ancestors when he bought a farm that included slaves. The Quakers who left this area did so because of their opposition to slavery - and mostly moved to the free territory of the Northwest, not deeper into the South. 2. JOHN, I am very much interested in your early PERRY family as I have been trying to find the parents of my ELIZABETH PERRY b 1776 in NC d11 June, 1853 in Dallas County, Alabama. She married REUBEN WHITE (1770-1818) in 1796 in South Carolina. I know essentially NOTHING about her PERRYS, but they must have been a fairly prominent family as they joined the BEASLEYS (who were former house of burgesses, etc) of Perquimans and Chowan counties in South Alabama and had plantations in both Dallas and Lowndes Counties in Al. They had eight children. After REUBEN WHITE'S death, ELIZABETH PERRY married REV. JAMES HOLLY, Methodist Episcopal Minister in Lowndes County, Alabama. Can you give me any direction? My problem is common names..... 1. Re: [NCPERQUI] Surname SIVAGE (sometimes Sevage, Savage)
    2. John Collins
    3. There was a John Sevage born 14 Sep 1794 in Hardham, Sussex, England, son of Richard Challen Sevage and Sarah Laker. The year is right, so maybe he moved to North Carolina. Possibly he was on the English side in the War of 1812 and stayed in America after it? I seem to recollect having read about actions in the Hampton Roads area during this War. This John Sevage had an elder brother, Richard, christened 10 May 1793, same parish. Their father, Richard Challen Sevage, was christened 20 Nov 1768, same parish, father untraced, mother Anne. This might be Anne Challen, born 1 Feb 1735, Pulborough, Sussex, England. However, Challen was a common name in Sussex. Richard Challen Sevage married Sarah Laker on 20 Jun 1792 at Chichester, Sussex, England - in this record he is spelt Sevege. There is also a record of what is presumably the same marriage dated 24 Jun 1792 at Coldwaltham, Sussex, England - in which the groom's name is given as Richard Challen. Hardham and Coldwaltham are neighboring villages: Chichester is some distance away. There was a Morris family who were Quakers in Pasquotank county from 1680 or earlier. John Sivage's wife might have been Anna Morris, born abt 1809, daughter of Dempsey (Demcey/Demcy) Morris and Sarah Brown. Assuming the various spellings of Dempsey are the same person, Sarah was his second wife. The Sivages were also Quakers, as the birth of Isaiah R Sivage on 18 Sep 1826 is recorded at Plainfield Mm, Hendricks, Indiana. If you are correcr about 'All the children of John and Anna were born "near Elizabeth City" NC', then this must have been recorded retrospectively after the family had moved. Between 1800 and 1830, because of their opposition to slavery, many Quakers moved from Perquimans, Pasquotank and Chowan counties in North Carolina to the free territory of the Northwest (which became Ohio and Indiana). A widowed member of my wife's family - Lydia (Overman) Chappell - made this move with her children in 1830. At 07:54 PM 10/29/1999 -0500, you wrote: >Has anyone EVER seen this name ANYWHERE?? 3. Hi Janet - We are related through some of the first group. The book is "Old Albemarle County North Carolina Perquimans Precinct Court Records 1688-1738," compiled by Weynette Haun, Durham, NC, 1980. The records consist mainly of law suits, petitions, registering deeds, registering livestock markings, orphans, etc. There are few if any, vital records. There are entries for Wilson, Belman, Thomas and Mary Blount/Blunt, Charles and Thomas Overman. No Pike. In your second group there are none of the names except for one entry for an Alexsander Jurden and one entry for a Richard Harrald. Guess they weren't in Perquimans before hitting Gates/Hertford/Bertie.
