Are any of you researching the Snelling and Lawrence families in the Chowan and Perquimans Co. N.C. area? Are these Lawrence families, by chance, related to the ones in Isle of Wright Co., VA? On my maternal grandmother's lineage, I have a Robert Lawrence who's daughter Jane Lawrence married Henry Gay Jr. They had a son, John Gay, who died in N.C. about 1783 with a will. I THINK he was in Edgecomb County or that general vicinity at the time of his death. Isn't this fairly close to Perquimans and Chowan?? If any of you are researching these Lawrence families, I hope you'll contact me! Thanks! My Callaway and Welch families are linked to the Laurence Family. Rachel Callaway married John Wiatt. Rachel's mother was Elizabeth Laurence daughter of William Laurence and Rachel Welch. I returned home after 10 days away early on the morning of Thanksgiving to find that I no longer had access to the Internet. I am sending this so that people in this group with whom I was in communication before Prodigy switched off the CampusCWIX service that it had bought from Cable & Wireless (without giving the requisite 30 days notice of termination) can still find me. If there is anyone else in Chowan County looking for a new ISP, Datalink Consulting is based in Tyner and its computer equipment resides in the Edenton telephone exchange building. (This is an unsolicited plug, and I have no connection with them other than that they are now my new ISP.)
I also have this marriage in my family tree. I have birthdates for most of the siblings and a will for Benjamin Perry and his father Jacob. Jacobs father was Benjamin Perry who married Susan Walton. Benjamin's father was Richard Perry brother of Phillip Perry the immigrant who died in 1669. Joy in Wisc. This might be Hepsebeth Perry (b: abt 1758 Perquimans Co), daughter of Jacob and Mary ____ Perry. I have 3 elder brothers (Miles, Lawrence, Benjamin) and four younger sisters (Sarah, Mary, Sallie, Maria Bunch) of hers, but as yet no marriages for any of them. As far as I know there is no Chowan mailing list. I wish there was, because my wife's family straddled the county line. Does anyone know how Chappell Hill on County Line Road got its name? Is anyone researching the Harveys that came over from England and settled in Perquimans County and later went to Charlotte County Virginia ?. I am interested in tracing Thomas Harvey (my 3rd. Hello All, New to the list and my first posting. I am researching my Whidbee ancestors. My ggg-gf (William?) Benjamin Whidbee was supposedly born in NC. All I have to go on is census data. He was born ca 1805. He married (Amanda?) Elizabeth unknown around 1827. Their first 2 children, Nancy Ann and Thomas, were also born in NC in 1828 and 1832, respectively. They left NC for AL ca 1833. I know there were (and still are) many Whidbee/Whedbee families in the Perquimans and Chowan Co. areas. I would love to correspond with any Whidbee/Whedbee researchers in hopes that I can find the parents of Ben and the maiden name of Elizabeth. Thanks for any help. Tracy in AL
Anyone have a will for William Speight who married Ann Phelps in 1772? C.E.Hester has shared some great info with me, and one line, the Winslows, ties in to my wife's Copelands. I am trying to determine whether or not William M. Speight who married Margaret Wallace was a grandson of the aforementioned William Speight and Ann Phelps. William M. Speight was born about 1820 and was the father of Wilson E. Speight. Would greatly appreciate any info regarding Speight wills in Chowan and Perquimans County, N.C.! Thanks! I had an ancestor that was married by Thomas Hawes in Perquimans Co. Does anyone know if Thomas Hawes was a Anglican or Quaker pastor. And how can I get a list of original members of Nag's Head Chapel when it was an Anglican Chapel. I believe my Oats ancestors were first members of the chapel. Does the Perquimans County Courthouse have deeds dating back to the 1690s. Because the Oats family first appeared in Perquimans County in 1693. If there is anyone doing research on this family please email me LeBateman@NetZero.Net, or write me Jacob L. Bateman III 3870 Strathmore Drive Montgomery Alabama 36116-4614. Looking for parents and siblings of William Speight and Margaret Wallace who were married about 1843 or so. Don't have my notes in front of me, so don't have the precise date. I think he's listed on the 1850 census as William M. Speight. Their son was Wilson Speight. Greatly interested in information on the Speight, Wallace, Forehand, Haskett families of Chowan and Perquimans County, N.C. Is there a cemetery compilation of cedarwood cemetery in Hertford? Bruce, Thanks so much for answering. Maybe my Elizabeth Perry(b. 1776) could have been a daughter of JESSE OR PHILIP JR... ??? I REALLY do thank you for trying but she couldn't have been THAT Phillip's daughter if he died in 1751.<G> Did Phillip Jr or Jesse have an Elizabeth as their daughter? This could really be a help to me if I can make a connection, as the PERRY line ends with Elizabeth, but I liked the name enough to name my son PERRY, so it would be nice to find them, wouldn't it? (of course, it was also my grandmother's middle name, but we still don't know the earlier connection) You are so kind to help, thanks again, Caroline In a message dated 11/2/99 9:21:15 AM Eastern Standard Time, NCPERQUI-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: << Bruce Perry <wbperry@flash.net> To: NCPERQUI-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <381E44EF.C173E8EE@flash.net> Subject: [NCPERQUI] Re: NCPERQUI-D Digest V99 #45 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Caroline I have an Elizabeth PERRY, but not much info about her.
