    3. Thanks Becky! I noticed you live in Indianapolis. That is about thirty miles North of where i grew up. I graduated from Indian Creek High School down in Trafalgar, Indiana in 1978. We lived in Nineveh, just a bit South of Franklin, where I was born. Mom still lives in Edinburgh, and my sister works in Greenwood. Dad worked for Arvin Industries in Franklin for 33 years until his death in 1986. 2. Hi Tracy: Saw your note just now. Yes it is a small world. Your note is a welcomed note. I come by Martinsville (on 67) when I visit a close friend in Worthington, IN. I always enjoy that drive. It is so peaceful. Hope you have a happy new year. Becky Wilson

    2. Will: Yes, I live on the eastside. When I first moved to Indianapolis, I live out on the westside for a year and nine months. Then I lived on the northside for about 13 years until I bought my own home on the eastside and am close to work (Finance Center at the old Fort Harrison). Originally I lived northeast of Indy, Noblesville's area (12 miles north). My dad farmed for many years and now he and my mother live in Noblesville. I hope you are able to have much success in your genealogy research. I have found much information on roots web for my family. Someone from California gave me some Civil War web sites that I shall delve in to more now that holidays are over. I have a great uncle who had family members supposedly in the Civil War. I don't know if Uncle Heze ever told my dad about it. But I shall seek that information also. Take care. Hope we can correspond occasionally. Everyone who sends out quearies sound interesting. I just wish I could help everyone but can't except to say good luck in their research. Becky Wilson

    2. Dear Willie: As I was scanning through my e-mail message, I noticed someone was able to give you a web site for the National Archives. Hopefully this will help. I have been unable to look through my material, but if there is a local library in your area that has a genealogy section or check with your state library's genealogy department to see if they have the forms you can fill out for Civil War records on family members. I was able to get some military and pensions records on my great grandfather's records from the Civil War through the National Archives in Atlanta, Georgia. They may be able to assist you. They usually will want to know pension number, State Unit, and the units that your family member(s) served in no matter if it is North or South. Depending on what you can obtain, the information can be quite a find. I was quite excited when I received my information. Good luch on your search. Each little or big find hopefully will encourage you to keep going. I am pulling for you. Season's Greetings Becky Wilson Indpls., IN rrjwilson@aol.com

    3. Will, The genealogy website for The National Archives and Records Administration is: http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/ There you will find instructions for ordering CSA Records. They are variable. I sent for records for 2 of my ancestors, William Alexander Adams from TX (and VA), and Martin VanBuren White from Chowan (and later Perquimans) Co., NC. William's were pretty ho-hum, a couple of promotions, had a horse of his own, daily rosters, etc. Martin's came with a physical description, his home county, his occupation, and records of being captured and sent to Elmira (and surviving, thank God!). 3. Looking for information on Thomas and Nancy Haskett, parents of the Catherine Haskett who married Wilson E. Speight (Born 1844). Also researching these families: William Henry Speight (b. 1822) and Margaret WALLACE (b.1822). Interested in this Wallace family, as well as the parents of William Speight Joel Forehand (born c. 1822) and Mary White (b. c 1822), parents of Harriett Martha Forehand who married Baker Perry Boyce Jr. December 3, 1868 in Chowan County, N.C. 2. Le Bateman
    3. My maternal eightgreatgrandfather was James Oats also called Jaemes "the Old" Oats. He was supposed to have had a signet ring and a Silver Tea Set with his Coat of arms on it. How can I track this down to varify this. There is a referrence to it in the Book Oates-Earl and Related Families by Weinburger. Jaemes was a prominant attorney in Perquimans County court was held in his house until the day he died in January 1703. If there is anyone doing research on this family and knows anything about the signet ring and Tea Set please contact me. If there is anyway to prove he was of Danish descent I would also like to know. Email me at LeBateman@NetZero.Net, or write me Jacob L. Anyway, did you get a good laugh out of all the people reported as living in SCOPIM district? Guess the Genealogy folks couldn't figure out YEOPIM, so they just put down what it looked like it might be! Be careful, they did the same with some of the NAMES too. grace

    3. There is a map that shows the counties of North Carolina at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgenweb/map1.html Chowan is bounded on the east by Perquimans County and on the west by the Chowan River.
