    1. [NCPERQUI] Help sought reading Tax Lists
    2. John Collins
    3. I very much appreciate the recent posting by Harold Colson of the reference to the Tax Lists in his web site, perqtax.homestead.com In the 1772 Tax List, on the C-D page, could anyone help with 2 lines. The third line: Chappel John son James out[?] on [what?] The sixth line: Chappel [who?] Would I be right in assuming that, for a named son to be shown with his father, the son must have been over 15 and still living in his parents' household? In the 1787 list, on Page 10, what is the top entry in the third (Where Situated) column? Could this be an abbreviation for Pasquotank? Also, what are the column headings on the sixth and seventh columns. Of particular interest to me was the fact that two of the Chappell households included slaves, so not all members of this family can have been Quakers in good standing - which is probably why I have been unable to find any record for the birth of Caleb Chappell towards the end of the eighteenth century.

    1. [NCPERQUI] Malachi/Malichi Chappell
    2. John Collins
    3. Malachi Chappell is listed in both the 1772 and 1787 Tax Lists. He wrote a will on 20 Apr 1775, in which a number of children are named - but not their mother. There is no son named Malachi. "Land in Ballahack" is left to son Jesse, whose name appears with his father in the 1772 Tax List, so is presumably the eldest son. Jesse does not appear in the 1787 Tax List: where is Ballahack? On 8 Jan 1787 Malachi Chappell married Sarah Forehand. I have been unable to find any record of children from this marriage, but suspect Caleb Chappell may have been their son. Caleb's son Israel married Squires Chappell's daughter Martha (Patsy) Ann. Can anyone confirm (or deny) that the Malachi in 1772, 1775 and 1787 are all the same person? Does anyone know of any children from the 1787 marriage?

    3. "Corn List" documents from circa 1715 are now up on my site. All are scanned, with some also transcribed. Coverage on these lists extends beyond Perquimans to Chowan and other old Albemarle precincts. http://perqtax.homestead.com/ On Mon, 10 Apr 2000, Harold Colson wrote: > Back in 1998 I transcribed a few colonial > Perquimans tax lists, and these got posted > to a few places, including Jeff Swann's > USGenWeb Perquimans site: > > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncperqui/perqui.htm > > I have finally composed my own site for these; > it carries all the old lists (1702, 1713, > 1718-1719, 1754) plus a new one, 1772. 1. [NCPERQUI] new tax list up
    2. Harold Colson
    3. Back in 1998 I transcribed a few colonial Perquimans tax lists, and these got posted to a few places, including Jeff Swann's USGenWeb Perquimans site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncperqui/perqui.htm I have finally composed my own site for these; it carries all the old lists (1702, 1713, 1718-1719, 1754) plus a new one, 1772. The 1772 is different in that it is posted as page-by-page jpeg scans of the actual document. Sadly, I've run out of time to do transcriptions, but the new home scanner allows me to get things out in another, and hopefully still usable, form. Next up will be assorted Corn List documents circa 1715, plus the 1787 property tax list. Both of these will be scans, too. My new site is: http://perqtax.homestead.com/ Please let me know how the scans work at your end; if the size or quality is off, I can redo the images for better performance. Yours, Harold Colson

    1. [NCPERQUI] Richard Evins and Elizabeth Perry
    2. Le Bateman
    3. I am looking for information on the family of Richard EVINS and Elizabeth PERRY. They were married in the early or mid 1670s. They had five children Jonathon, Rebekeah, Richard III, Ann, and Sarah. Richard died in 1693 and three months afterward his daughter Sarah was born. Now Elizabeth's brother was Micajah Perry in 1720 he made mentioned that his sister Mrs. Elizabeth Evans was to receive 20 pounds for the rest of her natural life. He also referred to her as Mrs. Evans in his will a year later in 1721. Also there is a Elizabeth Evins mentioined in Wynette Parks Haun's Book Old Albemarle County Perquimans Precinct North Carolina Births, Marriages, Deaths & Flesh Marks 1639-1820 now two dates are listed for them 7/Sep/1694 and 11/Sep/1694. The first is when they applied for their marriage license. The second is when the Governor married them. If there is anyone doing research on this family please email me LeBateman@NetZero.Net. 1. Re: [NCPERQUI] HATFIELD, SITTISON, BROWN
    2. Marie-Paulette
    3. Richard, Richard HATFIELD is my husbands line and I have a lot of information on this line. There is not a Henry in this line that I am aware of. Of course in this business anything is possible but I think it more likely to be John's line. I am trying to verify that the Richard HATFIELD who married Ann Sitterson/Sittison is the same Richard HATFIELD who married Rebecca Brown about 1798. I also suspect that they had a son named Washington (Possibly Geo. Wash.) and a daughter named Sarah. It is a toss up. Geo. Wash. Hatfield may also have been the son of John but as of yet I haven't been able to sort it out. If this is the same Richard HATFIELD, then he ends up in Wilkinson County in 1820 and is the patriarch of almost every HATFIELD in GA up to almost the turn of the century! The only information I can find on John is he is listed in the 1790 NC Census in Perquimans County. Richard and John also had the following Brothers: George, Benjamin, David, William and Jesse as listed in George's will. There is also the possibility of Robert HATFIELD of CRAVEN Co., NC being a brother. I have some information on Jesse, George, and Richard so far. What would you like to know? Do you have any information on any of these HATFIELDs? I also do not have proof of Richard's parents but have come across Richard HATFIELD and Priscilla ? and I am still researching this. What do you think? Marie-Paulette

I also believe John and Richard also had the following brothers: George, Benjamin, David, Jesse, William and possibly a Robert.
