Le Isn't the Berkeley Parish Register the same as the __Old Albemarle County NC Perq. Precinct Births, Marriages, Deaths and Flesh Marks, 1659-1820__? It is a long list of births and deaths but not a history of the area. Many of the early settlers are listed in here. Weynette Parks Haun (243 Argonne Drive, Durham, NC 27704) sells a transcript of this and many other early NC records. Many libraries have Weynette's books. Holly I found "Old Neck" on a USGS topo map which I can't lay my hands on at the moment. But I marked it on the map in the Winslow, __Hist of Perq Co__ book. "Old Neck" is the point about 13 miles SE of Hertford where the Perquimans River and Sutton's Creek meet. This was also the name of a Friends Meeting in that area. Hope this helps. It's probably Durant's Neck. The Perquiman's river runs by it, and there is the great swamp to the north.Jan ----- Original Message ----- From: Holly Schoenhoff <hollys@vt.edu> To: <NCPERQUI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, November 10, 2000 11:35 AM Subject: [NCPERQUI] "Old Neck" area of Perquimans > Le's question reminded me of a question I have. Le's question reminded me of a question I have. I recently obtained a copy of an old deed showing that my ancestors owned a plat of land in what was called the "Old Neck" area of Perqimans County. The land was bordered on one side by the River and a swamp/creek on the other side, bisected by what was mentioned as "the main road". This deed is from 1841. Can anyone give any hints as to where this area would be?
Has anyone heard of the Berkeley Parish Register supposed to be a history of the Early families who settled in Perquimans County North Carolina. This document along with the Haywood W. Faison manuscript is mentioned in Winslow's History of Perquimans County. Suppposedly these documents mention my Oates family as the among the first white families in the area. Is there a written history of the Little River Community which my Oates relations lived. James Oates was the first attorney in that communtiy he died January 1703. I am looking for information on the identity of Sarah Wyat widow of Solomon Wyatt. she called my ancestor John Wiatt her cousin in her will probated in 1718 in Perquimans Co. I am trying to determine if she were his sibling niece, grandchild, or what relation she was. She married Solomon Wyatt. Looking for obit for my 3rd ggrandfather, John SIVAGE b. ca. 1794, was in the War of 1812. Wife: Anna MORSE SIVAGE, children: Isaiah R. SIVAGE b. 1826; Armsted SIVAGE b. 1828; Lauretta SIVAGE b. ca. 1830; John SIVAGE b. 1834 (all b. "near Elizabeth City"). John SIVAGE is said to have served in the War of 1812--I can find a John SAVAGE on the rosters, but no details on him. Any info on John SIVAGE would be greatly appreciated. (His son, Armstead, was listed in the 1850 Guilford Co. census as Armstead SAVAGE, 19 years old and being born in Perquimans Co.) Thanks! I have created a web page for Marriage Bond Index of NC 1741-1868 marriagebondofNC http://marriagebondofnc.homestead.com/Home.html This page is not complete and will not be complete for several months. There are over 8,000 Bride and 8,000 Groom microfilm pages that list all marriage bonds for all counties of NC. I will add new surnames weekly so please don't get discouraged if you do not see the surname you are looking for. I have discovered that once you obtain the Index page that you are looking for it is easier to contact the NC Archives and get a copy of the original Marriage Bond. If you would like a specific Surname added to the page you may send me an e-mail and I will put that name on my list to add ASAP. All I ask is that you send one e-mail per Surname. You may send as many Surnames as you like, but please do so separately so that I may easily alphabetize my list that I take with me. In the Subject area put MB of NC (this will get my attention) In the body of the e-mail type the surname you would like added in ALL CAPS. Best of Luck to you all in your search for your ancestors. After I responded to your letter, I got my material out and reread it. I researched this family a bit serveral years ago and must say that it is confusing, there appear to be three Richards in a row. The latest being Richard who married Elizabeth Barnes, b. Oct 1705, I think he is the son of Richard and Anne Garrett. (that marriage comes from HISTORY OF PERQUIMANS COUNTY, page 232, "Chesten , Richard maried Anne Garrett (sister of Daniel and WM. and had issue: Sarah born 17 May 1689 and Daniel born 3 May 1692 Daniel (again) born May 1 1697) In the EAQG Richard and Ann's children are Sarah born 3/13/1689,Daniel 3-17-1692 and Richard born 3-10-1687 I also have a marriage for a Richard and An from the EAQG 1711, 12, 2. Richard, Cooper, Albemarle Co m. Ann Dorman, relict of Richard. (this Ann had a daguhter Hanah who married in 1714 so this marriage was probably in later life. my guess) In another record on the same page he is called Richard Cheston JR. I have a copy of Richard Cheston and Ann Dorman's marriage and I see no Oates as witnesses. In the HISTORY OF PERQUIMANS COUNTY, page 333, Cheaston, Richard , will 22 Nov 1715 names son Richard (2) and wife Anne and grand son Daniell Layton. Next Anne Chesson will names sons John James & JOshua and sister Esbell Garrett, ex Daniel and william (seems to me this not any of the Annes who married a Richard as no sons named Richard are mentioned. This book goes on to say James chesson son of John and Elizabeth, born 8 Nov 1675 married first Sarah and 2nd Anne who was mentioned in his will dated 19 May 1729 naming sons John and James and wife Anne. This is probably written in a very confusing way, but it is very confusing to me! As I say all these mentions of Richard and An. It seems to me that the Ann of the will abstract must have outlived her husband but who that was I don't know. I probably have not been helpful at all, I am sorry.
