    3. Alexander MEBANE came to the Hawfields as a pioneer from Pennsylvania ca 1740. He married Mary TINNEN. Alexander was too old to enter the regular troops during the Revolution, however he was commissioned a Colonel in the militia and served until he was past the age limit. Alexander continued to operate a mill. Because of his militia activity, the British and Tories singled him out and destroyed most of his property, burned his barns, rail fences, plundered his dwelling and took away everything they could, even emptying the feathers from beds and carried away the strawticks and furniture. The children of Alexander Mebane and Mary Tinnin were: William Mebane...no dates but married twice..no children Robert Mebane...never married...Colonel in Rev. War, gave his life for his freedom ....He was shot during the Revolutionary War by a noted Tory and horse thief. Alexander Mebane Jr...born 26 Nov 1744..died 5 July 1795, married Mary ARMSTRONG. In 1793 he was elected as member of the United States Congress, serving two sessions children of Alexander Jr and Mary Armstrong Mebane James Mebane...married Margaret ALLEN John Mebane... tradition says...married the Governor's widow (I do not know which Governor!)
