Hugh Conway Browning wrote a paper re Some Families Along the Eno (river) which is not too far from the Haw. Said his grandfather, Andrew "Andy" Browning was miller at number of mills along the Eno around the turn of the century. Hugh MAY have included earlier Browning info, i don't know as have just seen references to this paper in various Orange Cty. footnotes. I know that Andy and family lived in the "Piper-Cox" House (has been mistakenly called the Piper-Dickson House for about 25 years-but we're working on changing that as my g g grandfather Wiley Wooten Cox built the newer portion ca 1873). Anyway Hugh says Andy was the miller across the Eno at Cox's mill, which had been previously Alexander Dickson's mill. I suggest that you write to the public library in Hillsborough to ask about this paper. Nat Clark helps in the genealogical section and is a super fellow. Library may still be closed for renovations so be patient.
