From: Lester M. Allen, THE ALLEN FAMILY: DESCENDANTS OF JOHN AND AMY COX ALLEN WITH ALLIED LINES I only have a few pages of this book, but it appears to contain lots of information on this family and related families. John Allen Jr. was the son of John Allen I (immigrant) who was the son of a John Allen of Dublin Ireland. John Allen I was born Aug. 3, 1694 in Ireland and died Sep. 16, 1771. He is buried at London Grove FBG [Friends Burial Ground?], Chester County, Pennsylvania. He married in March 1719 to Amy Cox, born 1698; died Sep 13, 1778. Children: John Allen II, Rebecca Allen, Emey (Amy) Allen, Elizabeth Allen, William Allen, Joseph Allen, Mary Allen, Phebe Allen, and Benjamin Allen. John Allen II [Jr.] was born Feb. 8, 1720 and died Oct. 1, 1754. He married Phebe Scarlet. Phebe Scarlet, born Nov. 4, 1722, died 1815 was the daughter of Shadrach & Phebe (Bowater) Scarlet; granddaugter of Humphry and Ann (Richards) (Weaver) Scarlet & John Bowater Jr. and Frances Corbett Phebe had siblings, Samuel, Alice, Shadrach and Ann all of whom were appointed guardians by the Chester County Orphan's Court on Mar. 26, 1739. Matthew Scarlett and John Allen were appointed guardians to Phebe, Samuel and Alice. Michael lightfoot and Nathaniel Johnson were appointed guardians to Shadrach and Ann. Phebe was widowed at age 31. Their youngest child died about 25 days before his father's death. They were buried and London Grove Friends Cemetery in Chester County, Pa. John Allen II first came to the Cane Creek Area to visit his sister Elizabeth who had married Simon Dixon. "He applied for a land grant and returned home to Chester County , Pa. to dispose of his property and arrange his affairs to move to N.C. Before he could accomplish it, he became ill and died."
