History of the TROLLINGER CEMETERY Haw River, NC When Adam Trollinger first settled on the Haw River in 1745, he set aside one acre of land for a family burial ground. The Trollinger cemetery is located at Walnut Grove adjacent to the site of the Haw River United Methodist Church. From the cemetery there is a clear view across the river, east to the Granite Mill that Benjamin Trollinger built in 1844. Many members of the founding family are buried there, including the original settler who died in 1776 at nearly 95 years of age. A memorial stone recounts his accomplishments, and also describes the events in the lives of his immediate descendants, Jacob and Henry. Thomas Husk, the slave Jacob Trollinger sent to serve in General Washington's army with his son Henry, lived to the age of 90. He is buried in an unmarked grave among the Trollinger's. A trust established by John A. Trollinger and Ben and Buck Duke provides for the cemetery's upkeep. Parke Stratford the present overseer, is a Trollinger descendant. ==== NCORANGE Mailing List ==== Larry Noah - lrnoah@bigfoot.com - Listowner - NCORANGE mailing list Orange Co, NC USGenWeb site is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncorange List archives are at http://lists.rootsweb.com/~archiver/NCORANGE-L/97/
