This has reminded me of things that I had put on the back burner for later consideration and had forgotten them. One of my ancestors, JOHN GRAHAM, arrived in Orange, now Alamance early in the period when it was opened for settlement in the Hawfields area near ALEXANDER MEBANE. At that time JOHN GRAHAM was married to FRANCES MEBANE, by whom he had several children: WILLIAM, JANE "Jennet",ANN, JOHN, and ROBERT. FRANCES died between 1780 and 1782; JOHN remarried to MARY BIRD, daughter of JAMES BIRD of Caswell County, a good friend of ALEXANDER MEBANE; JOHN moved his family from the Hawfields to land on Jordan Creek, very near the Caswell County line. The sons of JOHN GRAHAM recieved a legacy from the estate of ROBERT MEBANE, of land in Tennessee granted to WILLIAM MEBANE for his Revolutionary War service. I know that some of the heirs of ROBERT GRAHAM did take up some of that Tenneessee land and settled there. JOHN GRAHAM and his children of both marriages also were the recipients of the estate of ELIZABETH TINNEN, widow of JAMES TINNEN of the Hawfields community. I would appreciate any information regarding the true relationship of FRANCES MEBANE to ALEXANDER MEBANE and his family.
