Rankin's book,The North Carolina Continentals, the Seventh North Carolina Regiment was under the command of Colonel James Hogun, and was one of three regiments created by the state legislature in late November, 1776. The Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Regiments were organized at Halifax, North Carolina in the month of July, 1777 and by September of 1777, Colonel Hogun had already established his more than five hundred men at Carlyle, Pennsylvania where they were innoculated for small pox, and had proceeded to within six miles of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Colonel Hogun and his troops were assigned to West Point where they were placed initially on work detail in the building of fortifications. Calvin E. Chunn, Ph.D. in his book Not By Bread Alone states "near the site of Washington's Headquarters, a marker designates where Brig. Gen. Lachian McIntosh's Brigade of Maj. Gen. John Sullivan's Division camped. These men were the gallant North Carolina Line and the marker reads: CONTINENTAL ARMY Valley Forge December 19 1777 June 18 1778 Sullivan's Division Major General John Sullivan McIntosh's Brigade Brigadier General Lachian McIntosh Commanding 1st North Carolina Infantry Colonel Thomas Clark 2nd North Carolina Infantry Colonel John Patton 3rd North Carolina Infantry Colonel Jethro Sumner 4th North Carolina Infantry Colonel Thomas Polk 5th North Carolina Infantry Lieut Col William L. Their remaining troops, along with those in the 4th, 5th and 6th North Carolina, transferred, on May 29, to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd regiments. ==== NCORANGE Mailing List ==== Larry Noah - lrnoah@bigfoot.com - Listowner - NCORANGE mailing list Orange Co, NC USGenWeb site is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncorange GENDEX at http://www.gendex.com/gendex/ has over 1500 databases on line
