This cemetery is near the Guilford/Rockingham Co. line . It has been abandoned for over 130 years. Surrounded by a circle of cedar trees, overgrown with honeysuckle, periwinkle and briers. Many sunken graves, some with huge trees growing out of them. I first visited this cemetery in the summer of 1989, at that time of year it was almost impossible to get into because of undergrowth.. James Whitsett born in Orange County, NC, died in Rockingham County, NC was my 3rd great-grandfather, I descend thru his daughter Permelia (Emily) Whitsett Wall. The cemetery is located one mile southwest of Midway on the McNutt Farm on State Road 1002. Eight graves are marked with fieldrock but many unmarked graves there. Aged about 82 years (son of James Whitsett Sr and Mary Moore) Milton WHITSETT.... died May 5, 1852.... Aged about 43 years (son of James and Nancy Moore Whitsett) Nancy WHITSETT... died June 20, 1855.... Aged 7 years, 6 months, and 24 days.
