Bebe Fox >> Hi Bebe, I was reading a book in the library one night that contained much of the letters of General Nathaniel Greene, and several are between he and Governor Burke, after he escaped from an island off the coast near Wilmington. As I recall, the Giovernor gave his word to the British that he would not escape if placed on the island, but did escape, and that failure to keep his work must have caused him political problems when he returned to Hillsboro, and he and Gen. Greene corresponded about this event for some time. I thought you might enjoy reading those letters. I am looking for the parents of my William Green, born February 6, 1762 in Prince Edward County, Virginia, and was "drafted" into the Hillsboro Militia in 1779 and fought with General Butler at the Battle of Lindley's Mill in an attempt to free Governor Burke. Any help would be appreciated.
