I looked at the dates for Alexander Mebane, Jr. and they were more comtemparies with regards to age. My John Graham was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania in January of 1741; he married Frances Mebane 25 December 1770; Frances died sometime between the birth of her last child, Robert, born 4 July 1780; and the marriage of Mary Bird to John Graham 15 October 1782. It appears John Graham and Alexander Mebane, Jr. married first cousins in Mary Bird and Mary Armstrong. I will have to continue my belief that Frances Mebane was either an unaccounted for daughter of a William Mebane(She named a son William)(Did Alexander have a brother named William?) or an unaccounted for daughter of Alexander Mebane, Sr. There were no sons named Alexander, though in the Graham family. Oh well, we win some and lose some. Someday this will be revealed at the right moment. At least the Birds seem to match up.
