Some Quakers surrendered to the pressures and passions of the time and did not take part in the REV War. Most of these were disowned by their meeting for violation of principles of Quakerism. Some of the disownments (really indictments) would say "taking up arms and appearing in a warlike manner", sometimes "taking affirmation to the present powers", one reads "hiring a man to go to war, and assisting to drive away his neighbor's cattle for the use of the army".
