A "must have" book for someone researching the above surname is "The Hoffmans of North Carolina" by Max Ellis Hoffman. The following is taken from an email message dated 4 April 1997 so may be out of date. I have not had any contact with Ms. Hoffman and do not know if the revision has been published or any of the original book are still left.
