    1. Indians in old Orange
    2. A paper written in the 1880/90's (can't recall) by Alvis J. Bynum, of current Chatham Cty., from info received through an interview with his uncle said that when Luke Bynum of my line settled on the Haw River/Pokeberry Creek in then Orange that there were Indians still living in the area. This was in 1744, even before there was an Orange Cty., actually. John Patterson was also living on the New Hope at that time, in the area which was to become current Orange. Luke married John's daughter, Martha "Patsy" Patterson. The paper reported no mention of trouble and that the Indians were hunters. Bebe Fox Winston-Salem, N.
