    1. [NCORANGE-L] Surnames I'm researching
    2. Mark Faucette
    3. I'm new to this list so I thought I'd introduce myself and tell you what surnames I'm researching. I'm Mark Faucette, a college math professor who's been bitten by the genealogy bug. I now get up to Graham, Alamance County, NC, about three or four times a year and spend a week rooting through birth, marriage, and death records in the Alamance County Register of Deeds office. The principal name I'm researching is FAUCETT, under any one of the zillion different spellings. I've gotten back to my third great grandfather, William E. FAUCETT (1796-1873). Although he, too, was born in North Carolina, around the turn of the 18th century, there were so many FAUCETTs in that part of the world I can't seem to find his father. (In fact, today there are four times as many FAUCETTS in Burlington, NC, alone as there are in the entire State of Georgia!) My ggg grandmother and wife of William E. Faucett was Elizabeth WALLIS (or WALLACE), daughter of Miles WALLIS. I would also like to learn more about my WALLIS ancestry. Another set of third great grandparents was Frederick BLANCHARD (1774-1853) and Elender TRUIT. Frederick BLANCHARD is an interesting character since he was married three times and had children for nearly a half century! His ancestors came from Gates and Chowan Counties, but he settled in that part of Orange County that became Alamance County in 1849. My grandmother is a MORTON from Caswell County, a descendant of Elijah MORTON. She's also a descendant of the LEAs who founded Leasburg, NC. My great grandmother was a SMITH, the daughter of Bedford Q. SMITH of Orange County. I invite you to visit my web page at http://www.westga.edu/~mfaucett/pers.html (or maybe it's just htm at the end?) where I have my entire list of surnames posted. Mark Faucette - via BulkRate
