Quoting from an essay by Ruth Blackwelder, associate professor of History, Lenoir Rhyne College, written sometime before 1952 talking about early landowners in Orange County: "One of the largest landowners in that area was Samuel Strudwick, an Englishman, who was granted land in the Haw Fields (Hayfields) to satisfy a debt which Governor George Burrington owed his father" Later in the article it says that in 1800 William Strudwick was the third largest landowner in the county with 4,000 acres. William Cain was the largest with 4,417 acres and Richard Bennehan had 4,065 acres. I do not know what relation William was to Samuel.
