Register of Deeds Orange County Court House Hillsborough, North Carolina Book # 3-page 132 STRADWICK TO ROACH This indenture made the fourteenth day of April 1784, between Samuel Stradwick of the County of Orange in the state of North Carolina of the one part and JAMES ROACH of the same county-planter of the other part. Witnessth that the said Samuel Stradwick for and in consideration of the sum of 5 hundred pounds Current money to him in hand paid by the said James Roach the receipt whereof the said Samuel Stradwick hereby acknowledge and hatch granted, bargained (sic) and sold and by these presents'd (sic) grant, bargin and sell unto the said James Roach, his heirs and assignes all that tract of land containing 182 acres lying and being in county of Orange aforesaid. Beginning at a Spanish Oak on the side of a Branch running then South fifteen Degrees West fourteen Chains P.O. Then South twenty-one degrees, West fifteen Chains to a Black Oak. Then South thirty-one degrees, East forty chains to a B.O. Then East eighteen chains to a B.O. then North forty-one and a half chains to a W.O. Then North thirty degrees, West nineteen chains W.O. on the side of a Branch, then down the meanders to the first station and all the appurtenances to the same thereunto belonging. To have and to hold the said premises and every part thereof and all the Estate, Right, Title, Interest, Claims & Demand, whatsoever of him the said Samuel Stradwick to hold to the said James Roach, his heirs and assignes. To the only proper use of him the said James Roach, his heirs and assignes for ever and the said Samuel Stradwick for himself and his heirs the said tract of land and premises and every part thereof against him and his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend. Register of Deeds Orange County Court House Hillsborough, North Carolina Book #7 pages 406-407 ANN ROACH to JAMES CRUTCHFIELD This indenture made this 1st day of February in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Eight. Between ANN ROACH and ABSALOM ROACH Executor of JAMES ROACH, Decd. of the state of North Carolina and County of Orange of the one part and James Crutchfield of the County and state foresaid. Of the other part witnesseth that the said ANN ROACH and ABSALOM ROACH for and in Consideration of the sum of five hundred pounds Current money of the said state to them in hand paid by the said James Crutchfield the receipt whereof the said ANN ROACH and ABSALOM ROACH do hereby acknowledge have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said James Crutchfield his heirs and assigns all that tract of land containing by estimation, one hundred and eighty two acres, lying and being in the county and State aforesaid. Beginning at a Spanish Oak on the side of a Branch, running thence South fifteen degrees, West fourteen chains to a post Oak, then South twenty-one degrees, West fifteed (sic) Chains to a black oak, then South thirty-one degrees, East forty Chains to a black oak, then Eaast eighteen Chains to a Black Jack, then North forty one and a half Chains to a White Oak, then North thirty degrees, West nineteen chains to a White Oak on the side of a Branch, then down the meander, then off to the Beginning and all the appurtenances to the same. Then unto excepting the widows thirds during her natural life as it is laid off and also the Revisions, Remainder and Remainders, Rents issues and profits of the said premises and every part then of and as the Estate Right, title, Interest, Claim and demand. Whatsoever of them and said Ann & Absalom Roach of in and to the said premises and every art thereof, to have and to hold the said tract of land and all and singular the premises above mentioned and every part thereof to the said James Crutchfield his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and ________? of the said James Crutchfield his heirs and assign forever excepting what has been above excepted and the said Ann and Absalom Roach for themselves and their heirs the said tract of land and premises and every part thereof against them, their heirs and assigns to the said James Crutchfield, his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these present. Marriage Bonds, page 346 ABSALOM ROACH to MARY MIDDLETON Know all men by these present that we, ABSALOM ROACH & JOAB TAYLOR are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency, Richard Dobbs Spright, esq. Governor & to his successor in office, in the sum of Five hundred pounds to which payment made and treaty to be made. We bind ourselves and each of our heirs, Executors & jointly and singly, firmly by these presents seal with our seals & dated this 16th day December, 1794. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounder ABSALOM ROACH hath this day obtained a license to solemnize the rites of matrimony between him & MARY MIDDLETON, now if there shall not hereafter appear any lawful cause to obstruct said marriage then this obligation to be void, else remain in full force and virtue. his Absalom X Roach mark his Job X Taylor mark Sealed & Delivered Presence of Wm Kerale Record Book 2-page 44-45 Grainger County Court House Rutledge, Tennessee 37861 WILL of ABSALOM ROACH, Decd In the name of God, Amen. I Absalom Roach, of the county of Granger and state of Tennessee, being weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory, blessed be God. And calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous to dispose of such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with. Do make ordain and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (Viz) 1. I resign my soul to God, who gave it to me and my body to the ground to be buried in a Christian like manner agreeable to my circumstances. 2. My will is that all my Iccnt (sic) debts be paid out of my money I may have at the time of my death or may come into the hands of my Executors out of the proceeds of my estate. 3. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Roach the plantation whereon I now live with the crop that is now growing on it during her natural life and at her death to be equally divided between my three daughters Anna, Hannah and Elenor Roach. And my will is that my daughters Anna, Hannah and Elenor live with their Mother on the said plantation and receive their support from the dame until they marry and in that case my will is that they take the property that belongs to them and remove & not receive their support from the same until the death of my said wife at which time my will is that said plantation be equally divided between my said daughters Anna, Hannah and Elenor or the survivors of them. I do further give and bequeath to my beloved wife Mary Roach all my household and kitchen furniture, apple mill, the old mare, and the mare that my son Absalom has now in his possession, a cart and the two pair of yearling, one logchain, six head of sheep, one cow and sidesaddle, three sows, fourteen shotes, seven pigs and eight of the large hogs, two plows, one wheet fan, one axe, one mattock and all my shoes, one iron wedge, one shovel, one scythe and cradle, one hand saw and drawing knife, all my augers. 4. My will is that the balance of my property both real & personal be sold on a credit of Tewlve(sic) months and equally divided between my sons James, William, John, Alfred and Absalom Roach, as follows, to wit, I have heretofore given to James, property to the value of seventy-five dollars and to John sixty dollars, to William and paid for him as security one hundred and twenty-five dollars. To Alfred seventy-seven dollas and to Absalom eighty dollars. My will is that the proceeds of the sale of my estate above named be divided so as to make their portions equal with what they have received. And whereas my son Absalom Roach stands security for my son Wm. Roach to Craighead & Messingill for the sum of one hundred and four dollars. With interest for some time. Now my will is that if my son Absalom Roach should be compelled to pay said debt as security for my son William that my son William Roach's part of my Estate shall be paid by Executor to my son Absalom Roach, if there should be that much coming to him out of my Estate. And lastly I make, appoint and ordain my Friend, Robert Loyd, my Executor of this my last will and Testament, revoking and making void all other and former wills by me at any time made.
