Sometimes our ancestors did not move as much as we think they did. Sometimes the county lines "moved". The following is a brief explanation as I understand the breadkup of Orange County, NC. Orange was formed in 1752 from Johnston, Bladen and Granville. The following counties were totally or partially included in the original Orange County. Alamance was form in 1849 from Orange. Caswell was formed in 1771 from Orange. Chatham was formed in 1770 from Orange. Durham was formed in 1881 from Orange and Wake (see below). Guilford was formed in 1771 from Orange and Rowan. Person was formed in 1791 from Caswell (see above). Randolph was formed in 1779 from Guilford (see above). Rockingham was formed in 1785 from Guilford (see above). Wake was formed in 1771 from Cumberland, Johnston and Orange. I hope this is helpful in searching for your ancestors. -- Larry Noah - lrnoah@bigfoot.com Listowner - NCORANGE mailing list See my Ancestors at - http://www.trailerpark.com/tango/lrnoah Gedcoms are at - http://members.tripod.com/~lrnoah ALBRIGHT, ALEXANDER, ASKINS, BELK, CLAPP, COURTNEY, CROSSWELL, FOUST, KELLER, MIXON, MOSER, NEASE, NOAH, PILKINGTON, SHARP, WATSON, WOODHAM, WYATT & more, mainly in NC and SC
