There was a Thomas Keates Cates b. Aug. 2, 1758 in Maryland, to Thomas Cates and Modesty Harrison both from Scotland to Maryland. The son Thomas Keates Cates went down to Orange Co., N.C. and on Feb. 3, 1784 married Martha 'Patty' Trice b. Jul 6, 1761 in Orange Co., N.C. They were in Washington Co., Georgia by 1800, where they had a daughter named Nancy Cates. Thomas Keates Cates and 'Pattty' went to Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama where he died on Feb. 1, 1848. She married Wiley Espey on JUl 24, 1830 in Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama. This is all I have in my files of the Cates Family. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pam" <pambrett@pacbell.net> To: <ncorange@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 25, 2007 9:43 AM Subject: [NCORANGE] Cate/Cates/Cator Family > My ancestor Elizabeth Brooks (ca 1755- ca 1835) daughter of Thomas > Brooks (died Orange 1810) and his wife Elizabeth, stated in a deed > that her grandfather was Edward Cato or Calow; the last name is > difficult to decipher. > > I have found many Cate/s in early Orange but no Catos or Calows.
