Jim: It is a possibility that your Travis Creek in the deed could be "Traverse" Creek. Since all spelling of the time was phonetic, and Orange Co clerks were notorious for their multiple spellings of the same word, I would almost bet on it. The NC Gazetteer says Traverse Creek rises in eastern Guilford Co and flows n.e. into Haw River in Alamance Co. The area was the Orange/Guilford line area in 1799. You might check other deeds for that area to confirm the spelling. (The name of one of my Orange Co ancestors is spelled 3 different ways in his will). Charlie
