I read online about Orange County, Indiana and how it was thought that it could be named after Orange County, NC because of the number of people who migrated there from here. I am interested in the people who migrated there and which routes they would have taken from NC. This would be around when Indiana became a state in 1816. Orange County, Indiana was founded in 1818, but migrations may have continued after that. I am primarily interested in the Stephens family, a James Stephens, but I have also seen in the NC marriages that many Stephens women have married into other families, some of which I think may have went to Indiana also. Does anyone have any information about mass migrations to Indiana between the 1810 and 1830(or even 1840)? thanks, Charlie
My Wells family came about 1815 with a group of Quakers who founded the Lick Creek Friends Church. I believe they came directly from Cane Creek in Orange, Now Bladen Co. NC. My own branch of the Wells family came from Cane Creek by way of Maury County TN.
