I'm researching James Downin/ing) who was in Orange Co. prior to 1754 (date of first land record) to his death prior to 1771. Known descendants were William and James Downing, and likely Josiah Downing. James and Josiah migrated to South Carolina. Although the Downings lived in the midst of a Quaker community on Cane Creek, I've not been able to find any record which shows him to be a Quaker. I do know that he was Scotch-Irish. He probably migrated into Orange Co. with at least one other family and so I'm interested in hearing about neighboring families who are known to have come into Orange Co. prior to 1754 -- when they came, where they came from, etc. Lois Olmstead -----Original Message----- From: ncorange-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ncorange-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Anggie Thompson Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2008 11:13 AM To: ncorange@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NCORANGE] New Members I, too, am searching Murray and Wrenn as well as Cook, Kernodle, Barber, McIntyre, Summers among many others, but those are the ones I'm working on right now. These families are around the upper part of Alamance County and eastern Guilford County.
