Julia" Southside VA is generally considered the portion of Virginia south of the James River and extents west to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Piedmont "region" refers to the areas at which tidal water stops ebbing and flowing. It is often called the "fall line" where rapids begin to appear in the rivers, making western navigation difficult if not impossible. The "piedmont" area extends generally to the foot of the first mountain. I hope this make some sense of the terms. Rob Barton
