Hi Mark, Don't keep us in suspense - did A.D. Murphey win the Senate seat? I recognize one of the other Senatorial nominees: "Judge Martin of Salisbury" was actually James Martin, Jr., b. 1786, son of Col. James Martin of Snow Creek Plantation, Stokes Co., NC. He did not receive the appointment as U.S. Senator & in fact, moved from NC and later died in Mobile, AL. Judge James Martin's uncle was my 4th GGF, former NC Governor & U.S. Senator, Alexander Martin of Rockingham Co. I think you may have a slight typo on the name "David F. Cladwell" -- shouldn't it read "Caldwell" ? Francie ====================================================== SENATORIAL VACANCY. - We learn that the friends of the Hon. A.D. Swain, esq. of Buncombe; Judge A.D. Murphey, of Orange; and the Hon. Samuel P. Carson, (brought forward by a communication on the first page of this paper;) and one from the east, our present Governor, John Owen. Ib. *****
