(I apologize if this has come through already---I lost my connection to the internet as I was sending and I don't find it in my "Sent" folder!) Hi everyone, I have been struggling with some decisions for a long while and I've finally reached a conclusion just this morning. It's with a great deal of regret that I give up my duties as county coordinator of Orange County GenWeb. I've known that I haven't had the time available to do justice to the site for some time now, but I kept hoping that would change, so I waited "another month" and then "another." But I've come to realize that it isn't fair to the county to continue to hold on to the site, when someone else could take over and give it the attention it so deserves. However, as you can tell, it hasn't been an easy decision for me. I've been involved in many GenWeb and Rootsweb duties for a long, long while and, of course, my own genealogy work, as well. But all of those things have taken a backseat to the work I've been doing on various projects concerning my native city of New Orleans, since the levee failures and resulting flood almost destroyed it two years ago. One of those projects, my Old New Orleans site, has grown steadily until it's way beyond anything I could have imagined when I first started it. And, besides the growth in number of visitors, it's become much more than just a website, both for me and for many who visit. In a small way, it's become a source of healing for many who still grieve over what has happened to a city we hold so dear. It has, also, turned out to be what I hoped (only on a bigger scale than I foresaw!) and that is a platform to educate visitors about the city's history and culture. With the large number of people the site now reaches, I feel as though it would be wrong not to use the surprising opportunity with which I've been blessed to devote the biggest portion of my time and energy to it. I will be giving up my Pearl River, MS GenWeb county, as well; and other of my personal and genealogy projects, so that I can devote myself to Old New Orleans. I hope that, one day, I'll be able to return to the GenWeb family and begin, again, to help with work that means a great deal to me. It's been a joy to work with so many dedicated Orange County researchers over the past few years. Your help, encouragement and enthusiasm has been appreciated more than you know.
