    2. The "large home in the curve of a river" sounds like the Phillip Alston House, also known as the House in the Horseshoe because it was built in a curving bend of the Deep River in Moore County. Born in Halifax County, NC, Alston was a Patriot Colonel and local magistrate who was notorious for abusing his ofices to steal land from nearby Scots farmers by accusing them of Toryism. He eventually left Moore County under suspicion of murder. His house is a NC State Historic Site and was the location of a small battle between Alston's militia and the Tory band of Colonel David Fanning. There is no info on the web about his children, but you can contact the site for more info: http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/sections/hs/horsesho/horsesho.htm "pjclarke" <pjclarke@bham.rr.com> wrote: >I am searching for an Alston who married my ancestor, Peter Wadsworth.  They >lived in possibly Moore County, NC.  The Alston Family had a large home on >the curve of a river in an adjoining county.  I`m wondering if Peter could >have been there before his descendents showed up in Moore Co, NC, in the >1790 census.  Any help will be appreciated.  TIA   Polly Clarke > > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NCORANGE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

    3. I am searching for an Alston who married my ancestor, Peter Wadsworth. They lived in possibly Moore County, NC. The Alston Family had a large home on the curve of a river in an adjoining county. I`m wondering if Peter could have been there before his descendents showed up in Moore Co, NC, in the 1790 census. Any help will be appreciated. TIA Polly Clarke

    3. Benjamin Swain Simpson married Mary Wyatt in Chowan County, NC on Jan. 27, 1791, marriage bond #00023623. Bondsman was Samuel Simpson. I have in my notes that Mary was the daughter of Joshua Wyatt and Elizabeth. I also have Lemuel's three marriages, as you have previously found. Incidentally, Luke Simpson was the bondsman in Lemuel's marriage to Margaret Garrison. I am trying to prove my descendency from Luke. My notes indicate that Margaret Dickey was Lemuel's mother, but I can not specifically confirm this. I am trying to prove that I descend from Luke Simpson, Samuel Swain Simpson's brother, so I haven't spent that much time on Benjamin Swain Simpson's line. Hope you can give me some help with Henry Simpson. He died young, and there is little to go on. 3. Carl, The below information is great. In regards to Benjamin Swain Simpson son of Samuel Simpson, do you know by chance whom Benjamin Swain Simpson married? In previous research, I have found Benjamin being married 3 times. First to Mary Wyatt in Chowan county on Jan 27, 1791, whom died abt 1813. Then to Margaret Garrison in Orange County on May 9, 1813 whom died about 1824. Then to Caty Dickey in Orange County on July 28, 1824. This previous research states Lemuel William Simpson's mother is Caty Dickey. But Lemeul was born in 1794 and Caty married Benjamin in 1824. (Or was this just the bond that was issued later after Lemuel was born.) I would then assume Lemuel's mother is Mary Wyatt. Which I find interesting as Lemeul William Simpson had a son named Wyatt which my husband is a direct descedant of. If you can give any light on this information I would greatly appreciate this. I did speak with another family member historian about the Simpson's and ask regarding your Henry/Luke connection. She was going to research for me and get back with any details of this nature. Thank you again. My husband line starts with Lemeul Simpson born in 1796 and died in Alamance in 1881. He had many children. We are assuming Lemuel's father was Benjamin Swain Simpson whose father is Samuel Simpson of whom you are talking about. We have not been able to prove the Benjamin Swain connection to Lemeul and would love to know more. Please let me know what connections if any you might have. 3. Shauna, Lemuel William Simpson was born April 12, 1794, in Edenton Township, Chowan County, NC, and died October 29, 1881 in Altamahaw Twp., Alamance County. He is buried at The Gilliam Primitive Baptist Church. He married Lucy Faucett on December 17, 1816 in Orange County, bondsman Thomas Gore. Lemuel is the son of Benjamin Swain Simpson, the first born son of Samuel Simpson and Mary Swain. Benjamin Swain Simpson was born July 9, 1769, and moved with his family to that part of Orange County which became Alamance. Samuel was a veteran of the Revolutionary War, and was said to be a schoolmaster. His son Luke went before the court of pleas and sessions in Orange County in 1844 on behalf of his siblings to benefit from Samuel's pension and land bounty for service in the War. >From land grant records of Perquimans County, I have found that Samuel had a brother Benjamin Jr., and that their father was named Benjamin as well. In Samuel's Revolutionay War pension file, there were three pages from an old Scottish catechism on which were written the names and birthdays of several of Samuel's children, including Benjamin Swain, his first born son. Do you have anything on Henry Simpson, or any of Luke Simpson's early children? Luke was a younger brother of Benjamin Swain. 1. Re: [NCORANGE] Germans of Orange & Alamance (Hurdle)
    2. Carl, I only have the name of one HURDLE. George Hurdle married Margaret Harden on February 28, 1828. Margaret was the daughter of John Harden,Sr. and Sarah (Sallie) Holt. They lived and died in Orange County, now Alamance, so George Hurdle would have lived in this area, too. Cornelia Holmes I have a marriage for bride Mary Adams and groom Henry Simpson, dated 7 Oct 1837, Orange County, with bondsman Jacob O. Hurdle, witness J Taylor. By chance, is this part of your "Adam" line? I have interests in the Adams, Simpson and Hurdle families of Orange County, particularly during the period 1800-1850. I have not been able to get very far with these names, and would appreciate hearing from anyone with information to share. My Samuel Simpson arrived in Orange County ca 1796, was a schoolmaster, Revolutionary War veteran, and I have a grerat deal of information about his immediate family, but need to go further. Henry may have been his grandson, but I can't prove it.... Carl Shumaker ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
