    1. [NCORANGE] Missing Email
    2. Mary Ellis
    3. Some of you that are using mail filters are missing emails from this list. I don't use one but I am assuming that you have to have the sender in your address book before the mail is accepted. In the case of the list mail, the sender name has to be there also. I have gotten two notices this morning that mail is bouncing from some of you because of this problem. If you have 10 that bounce because of this, the mail program will automatically unsubcribe you. I have contacted a few off line about it but it is still happening. Thanks for helping me with this problem. -- Mary Ellis County Coordinator Alamance NCGenWeb http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mwellis/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncalaman/ http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncacgs/

    3. Hello Christine, The following url will take you to a site where the marriages are alphabetized by the groom: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/orange/vitals/grooms3.txt This particular url covers K through Q.? You can access the other parts of the alphabet by changing the number "3" in the url to "1"; "2"; or "4" in your browser window and hitting the "Enter" key. 1. [NCORANGE] CADDEL Family Brick Wall
    2. Bill Caddell
    3. Below is a summary of all the early info I have. Are there any listers who connect or have info on the family prior to 1804? There have been many theories but no definite direct connections to Scotland prior to 1751. According to family tradition my ancestor Andrew Caddel b. c1730 Scotland? indentured at age of 14 (to pay passage to America from Scotland) in Virginia c1744 came to Orange Co., NC c1752 from Spotsylvania Co., VA. He witness a deed in 1751 in Spotsylvania Co., VA. Local records show him as a surveyor with LEA family members in the "frontier" in vic of Orange Co., NC at least through the French & Indian war. In 1754 he bought 100 ac from John LEA by oath of William LEA. Along with Andrew Caddel were the following LEAs in the 1755 tax list for Orange Co., NC: James LEA (1-0)James LEA & servant (2-0) William LEA & son with 2 Negroes (2-2) William LEA on Cobs Creek with 1 Negro (1-1) John LEA with....2 Negroes (1-2) William LEA with 1 Negro (1-1) Andrew Caddel was administrator along with Edmund LEA and Carter LEA, Caswell County,Will Book A, page 166. Caddell, Birmingham, AL which included a typed copy of a handwritten letter dated 2 Sep 1921, Winfield, AL. The letter addressed to Reverend Jas. I (James Ira) Caddell of Warrior, AL was from an Ethel Caddell (Ethel Vernice :b. 9 Oct 1902). The letter included a record written in 1888 by Old Uncle Lewis Caddel copied from an older record he had at the time and included the following text: "My Grandfather came across the ocean from England (Scotland) to North Carolina at the age of 14 years. He was sold by Captain on ship to pay for his pass way over to the 'New World.' He worked his time out which was 7 years for his new master and then married in Carolina. He raised three sons - John, Andrew and William...." The letter also stated that Old uncle Lewis was Lewis Green Caddel (son of Andrew Henderson Caddel and grandson of Andrew Caddel the emigrant). Lewis was born 7 Sep 1824, McMinn County, TN and died 30 Mar 1905, being 80 years of age. Lewis had four brothers - John (Jackson), Andrew, Thomas, Lewis and Bazzie. They had an uncle John (John Calvin) and Billy (William Caddel). John had a son Andrew (Andrew Caddel :b. 21 Oct 1795). Billy (William Riley Caddel) had a son Andrew (Andrew Caddel :b. 5 Nov 1817) and there one borned after uncle Billy died, his name unknown. Andrew (son of Billy) moved to Ark. And we don't know what became of him." All the above letter info fits with that I have compiled: It confirmed the three sons - John, Andrew & William. John (John Calvin) had a son Andrew (Capt Andrew Caddel) who went to Texas in 1834 and fought under General Sam Houston at Battle of San Jacinto for Texas independence. Andrew Henderson Caddel stayed in Alabama and Billy (William Riley) had a son Andrew (Andrew Jackson Caddel) who went to Arkansas (who he did not know what happened to him)...my gg grandfather, who died with four oldest sons in Civil War. His widow, Mary Burchfield Caddel left Columbia Co., AR with her minor children after Civil War, moving to Hopkins Co., TX. Andrew Caddel the immigrant & family left northern NC (Orange, Caswell and Person Counties) c1804 and went to Pendleton Dist., SC until migrating to St Clair Co., AL when Alabama became a state.
