    1. Re: [NCORANGE] WALKER, PIKE
    2. Celia Becker
    3. Dear Lin; I'm pretty sure your James Walker was from Virginia prior to North Carolina. I've got two files of Walker information since I've also been trying to pinpoint the James Walker who was the father of my William Daley/Daly Walker who was in Wilkes and Surry Counties. I'm pretty sure where my James eventually leads; it's filling in the gaps in the chain that's the problem. I also have Berry family data. That family was in the family history of a friend of mine whose history I researched and compiled for him just a few months ago. As I told Ben, though, I'll have to dig the appropriate "stuff" out of the files tomorrow. The Walker files are thick. I've been chasing that family around far longer than I care to think about. For a long time I didn't know who my William Daley Walker's father was because his oldest son was always referred to in the family by his middle name. I knew he had married a Fortner in Kentucky, so I initially kept looking for all the Walkers with a combination of Kentucky and North Carolina connections which typically led back to Virginia. So, by the time I figured out the full name of my William Daley Walker's oldest son, and thus his father's name, I had a lot of "extra" Walker materials, far more than I'd like to think about at the moment. I'll go through it tomorrow. Expect a long e-mail... Cecilia L. They lived in the part of Orange Co NC that in 1777 became Caswell Co NC, and their home was on Moon's Creek. Looking for a James WALKER who had a wife named Ann and who died intestate in 1802 in Caswell Co NC, whilst in the middle of a lawsuit to eject one Lewis PIKE from some land that straddled the border between Caswell Co NC and Rockingham Co NC. This James WALKER may have been a brother of a Samuel WALKER who had a wife named Eleanor and who died testate in 1798 in Caswell Co NC. James WALKER owned this Moon's Creek land before 1777, when it was in Orange Co NC. He is probably the father of the Revolutionary War pensioner James WALKER (1755-c1837), a nomad who ended up in Adams Co OH. Would love to "place" this patriarch James WALKER! 3. Dear Ben; Your Berry's are from Virginia. I just did a family history for a friend who had them in mixed in his Campbell line. Some of them went from the Augusta-Rockingham Virginia counties area to Kentucky. I'll dig out what I have and e-mail it to you tomorrow, because there was a line that went southward through North Carolina and into Tennessee. Cecilia L. Her parents may've been the Wiley/Willie/William WINTERS, who was enumerated on the 1820 Orange County Census and found on later enumerations in Guilford County, and Winnie WINTERS, enumerated as a widow on the 1850 census of Guilford. Duncan was a tailor by trade and did well in the Cherokee Land Lottery of 1827. He and his family moved to Franklin Co., GA where they are found up until 1850. Any response appreciated. 1. [NCORANGE] Calo/Cate/Cato/Cator
    2. Pam
    3. I too am researching the Cate/s Family in early Orange. I have a 1822 deed in Tennessee from Elizabeth Howell to her son John in which she says she inherited the property in North Carolina from her mother Elizabeth Brooks who was daughter of Edward Calo/Cato?? The handwriting is hard to decipher. I too have found dozens of Cate/s, but only one reference to him in any of the records of early North Carolina. ORANGE CO. TAX LIST - 1755 Cate, John & 2 sons 3 white polls 0 black polls Cate, Thomas, Jr. 2 white polls 0 black polls Cate, Robert, Sr. 3 white polls 0 black polls Cate, Benj. 2 white polls 0 black polls Cator, Edward 1 white polls 0 black polls Cate, Thomas, Sr. 2 white polls 0 black polls I have not found any other Cators in the County so I a guessing that my Edward was a Cate but am continuing to look. I assume he must have died around 1755 since there are no more records of him. Pam Brett

John Howell ca 1730-1792? son of Thomas as shown in Granville County, NC list of taxables 1750 p. 27 John Paines' list Thomas Howell aged 40 (born 1710) ... Jno Howell aged 20 (born 1730) 2 polls John and his unknown wife reportedly had 8 sons: Caleb, Edward, Benjamin, Henry, Malachai, Philip, John and William and one daughter Jane who married Henry Ivy in 1774 in Orange. Most (if not all) of these children migrated to Tennessee after the Revolutionary War. I am descended from Benjamin Howell born Granville 10 March 1753 and died 9 Jan 1834 in Grainger County, Tennessee and married Elizabeth Brooks daughter of Thomas Brooks above.

    2. Phillip Rogers
    3. I am researching the names above. My ancestors, Archibald Reaves and Elizabeth Caldwell, were married in Orange Co. in 1809. Am looking for their parents/siblings. Archibald bought a town lot around 1801 near the university, and sold it in 1813. By around 1815, they were in Bedford Co., TN. Would appreciate any leads or suggestions. Pat in Ohio
