I am researching the Families of Hart, Wyatt, and Ward, of Orange CO and then later Alamance Counties. James Hart Tennessee
Last but not least, my elusive WALKER family! They lived in the part of Orange Co NC that in 1777 became Caswell Co NC, and their home was on Moon's Creek. Looking for a James WALKER who had a wife named Ann and who died intestate in 1802 in Caswell Co NC, whilst in the middle of a lawsuit to eject one Lewis PIKE from some land that straddled the border between Caswell Co NC and Rockingham Co NC. This James WALKER may have been a brother of a Samuel WALKER who had a wife named Eleanor and who died testate in 1798 in Caswell Co NC. James WALKER owned this Moon's Creek land before 1777, when it was in Orange Co NC. He is probably the father of the Revolutionary War pensioner James WALKER (1755-c1837), a nomad who ended up in Adams Co OH. Would love to "place" this patriarch James WALKER! Lin London, England
Hi, Ben and Jalena Would you recognise my BERRY family? My ancestress was a Frances ___ (c1741-1819), who married 1stly a Mr BERRY and had two children, William BERRY (c1759-c1823) (my line) and Ann BERRY PASCHALL. This Mr BERRY died in about 1768, and his widow Frances remarried in 1799 to Griffin TUGGLE (d 1801), who had a son Nicholas TUGGLE by an earlier wife. "TUGGLE" may have been "TUGWELL" at some stage. Hello again, Everyone Brenda, in your MASON research, have you come across two MASON girls who married into my WALKER family? I have no proof that they were sisters, but it seems probable. They both married sons of William WALKER (1770-1850s), who was born in Orange Co NC, and the date of both of their Caswell Co NC marriage bonds was 16 Dec 1820, so they may have had a double wedding. Jean MASON married Samuel WALKER, and I lose her after that. She may have died as early as the 1830s, but this is a guess. Samuel WALKER was still alive in 1853. Ann H. MASON was born in about 1803 in NC, married James WALKER and eventually moved to Smith Co TN. I know the names of four of their children: Matthew, Margaret, David and Wiley W. Again, James WALKER was still alive in 1853, and Ann MASON WALKER was still alive in 1850. If any of you recognise these people, I'd love to hear from you! Lin London, England BTW, the 1800 US Census does not give birthplaces; the first federal census to give birthplaces was the 1850. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brenda Mason Campos" <nanacampos@esrta.com> To: <ncorange@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2008 8:25 PM Subject: [NCORANGE] questions > Has any one on the list researched their surnames back to Ireland or Scotland yet? > If so ..just where in that area? > Also where did most of the people in Orange co NC come from before coming to NC? > > Does any one have any information on the following Mason's that lived in Orange Nc in 1800 > > 1. Hello, All Barbara, in your GIBSON research, have you come across the parents of my Thomas GIBSON, who was born in about 1797 in Rockingham Co NC and who married in December 1819 in Caswell Co NC to Margaret BOSWELL, daughter of Ransom BOSWELL and Elizabeth MOSS? Lin I think you are from England, Is that correct? I was wondering if you had reason to believe that your relatives were in Orange County North Carolina USA at ant time. I would certainly like for you to ake a DNA test to see if you are related to any Berry's in the USA. Our Robert Berry is as far back as we can get. He was in North Carolina in 1752 and was probably born about 1730.we do not know if he came from England or Scotland. Our hope is that some day a Berry over on your side of the world will take the DNA test .
