My Wells family came about 1815 with a group of Quakers who founded the Lick Creek Friends Church. I believe they came directly from Cane Creek in Orange, Now Bladen Co. NC. Please Guys and Gals Lets remove the portion of the emails we that we don't need to send. All of this repetitive stuff is store in the archives and makes it hard to do a search there. Also remember to change the subject line for the same reason. I read online about Orange County, Indiana and how it was thought that it could be named after Orange County, NC because of the number of people who migrated there from here. I am interested in the people who migrated there and which routes they would have taken from NC. This would be around when Indiana became a state in 1816. Orange County, Indiana was founded in 1818, but migrations may have continued after that. I am primarily interested in the Stephens family, a James Stephens, but I have also seen in the NC marriages that many Stephens women have married into other families, some of which I think may have went to Indiana also. Does anyone have any information about mass migrations to Indiana between the 1810 and 1830(or even 1840)? thanks, Charlie
Does anyone know anything about a Daniel Cameron???? He was living in Orange County in 1879 & 1880. His name was mentioned in a divorce case in Orange County at this time. It was said he had an affair with Nancy Trice. Nancy Trice's husband, Isreal Turner, divorced her in Fall court of 1880 claiming adultery and that she had left his household. Also a son that was born was not the son of Isreal Turner. The best I can find is Isreal had custody his four daughters and one son and Nannie had only her youngest son. Personally I think Isreal was a little "out there", but he made the statements and the divorce did take place, so who was this man Daniel Cameron? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Christine, My Gunter line I have back to Asa B. Gunter[b-1814;d-1890] he was married to Clotilda Moring. He was a farmer in Orange County and when the county of Durham was made he became a citizen of that county. His one son Demeterius C. Gunter married Jane Isabelle Trice, who was the daughter of Chesley Page Trice, my great great grandfather. The surnames connected to Asa's daughters are Christian and Carlton and I am still working on them. Ok, I am working on all of them .... it is a never ending search. There are Workman's that are from Delaware too. I came across them searching for my Ellis family in that area. Gravestones I found are located in the Providence Church Cemetery, SW of Laurel, Delaware. I have photos of the stones if you would like them. (if anyone wants them, please send me your email and I can forward them to you) They are: Samuel T. Workman Oct 14, 1864 June 28, 1924 Mary E. Workman, Jan 26 1864 Apr 29, 1932. Sandra, Thanks for posting this information. If your local library does not have Heritage Quest, it is free to Texas residents through the Texas State Library. You do have to register with them to obtain log in information in order to use from your home computer. I think out-of-state researchers can subscribe for a fee, but I am not sure that is still the case. You should be able to contact the state library through www.tsl.state.tx.us.
