Hello, hope this list proves "fruitful" for all. It is my understanding that my Stephen Medlock may have "come" from this area of NC and I suspect that David Johnson did also. Stephen Medlock, Sr. b. pre 1770's eventually settled in the area that is now Caldwell Co. - then old Burke. His wife's names was Hanah - last name unknown. His only known child, so far, is Stephen Jr. I do suspect that his other children may be William, Elizabeth, & Elijah. Other Medlock men in the area at the same time were: John, Nicholas Sr. & Jr., Charles & Henry and a bit later a Willy. I believe they are all related but don't quite know how. As for David Johnson, Sr. he was born around 1747 (based on pole tax records) m. Sarah unknown. Children: David, Jr., Samuel, Rebecca, Eliza, Hannah, Andrew & Jordan. The Medlock & Johnson families lived near each other, went to the same church and intermarried. These 2 lines are the "main" ones from my Grandfather Medlock that I am intensely research right now. Have loads of info. from 1800 on but can't get the generation back going yet. Any help is immensley appreciated. Gale Payne Nagy
Although this list was only formed a few hours ago and we only have a handful of subscribers at this point, I would like to give us a topic for discussion. Sometimes our ancestors did not move as much as we think they did. Sometimes the county lines "moved". The following is a brief explanation (as I understand it)the breakup of Orange County, NC. Orange was formed in 1752 from Johnston, Bladen and Granville. The following counties were totally or partially included in the original Orange County. Alamance was form in 1849 from Orange. Caswell was formed in 1771 from Orange. Chatham was formed in 1770 from Orange. Durham was formed in 1881 from Orange and Wake (see below). Guilford was formed in 1771 from Orange and Rowan. Person was formed in 1791 from Caswell (see above). Randolph was formed in 1779 from Guilford (see above). Rockingham was formed in 1785 from Guilford (see above). Wake was formed in 1771 from Cumberland, Johnston and Orange. I hope this is helpful in searching for your ancestors. -- Larry Noah - lrnoah@bigfoot.com Listowner - NCORANGE mailing list See my Ancestors at - http://www.trailerpark.com/tango/lrnoah Gedcoms are at - http://members.tripod.com/~lrnoah ALBRIGHT, ALEXANDER, ASKINS, BELK, CLAPP, COURTNEY, CROSSWELL, FOUST, KELLER, MIXON, MOSER, NEASE, NOAH, PILKINGTON, SHARP, WATSON, WOODHAM, WYATT & more, mainly in NC and SC ==== NCORANGE Mailing List ==== Larry Noah - lrnoah@bigfoot.com - Listowner - NCORANGE mailing list County Coordinator Orange Co, NC USGenWeb site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncorange
