Hello all, Does anyone have access to cemetary or will records in the above listed counties? I need help please as my local library has almost no books on these counties. I am searching for the the following people, not sure what counties they may be buried in. John Harris who was married to Elizabeth Stubblefield Edwin R. Harris who was married to a Stubblefield I am researching descendants of Thompson Harris of the Hogans Creek area. My great great great grandfather was Claiborne Harris who married Minerva Settle in Rockingham Co. NC. Trying to prove that John Harris and Elizabeth Stubblefield are his parents. I understand from land deeds that the Harris family owned land in both Rockingham and Caswell County, as Hogans Creek is a boundary between the two counties. Not exactly sure where their land was but must be in the south part of Rockingham Co. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me.... I used to wonder about the approximately two year spacing between children until I consulted with a Gynecologist/Genealogist. She pointed out at a nursing mother is not usually fertile. Babies were usually weaned in their second summer so many babies were conceived in the late summer or early fall. > Then again, cold weather could also be a factor! > Good Searching - Good Finding - Good Luck! I have been plotting early land grants in Orange County and I keep seeing references to the metes and bounds of Strudwick's land. For example one land descriptio might read, ". . .to a corner post oak and then down Studwisks line to a red oak. . . . . ." I have checked all the Lord Granville grants, the NC land grants and deed books up through Book 7 (deeds up to ca. 1797). With the exception of the Granville grants, references to the Strudwick lands are scattered throughout the records as part of the metes and bounds of other inddividual's land descriptions in Orange County. This indicates Strudwick must have obtained possession of large tracts of land, but, unfortunately, none of the sources cited above provide any indication on how, when and where Strudwick got this land . Can any one knowledeable of Orange land records provide information on the locations and dispositions of Strudwick's lands? Hello: I am searching for information on a Daniel MCCOLLUM of Orange/Guilford County. I have that he was married to a Mary Thrasher(?). Daniel died on April 1, 1779 in Guilford County. Mary died in Dec 1783. One reference source I have says that Daniel was born in Scotland. I have their children as William, David, Issac, Jacob, Thrasher, and Cloud (my direct ancestor). Any information you have on these individuals would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help. I have found a number of sources that indicate that the British forces marched through 'old' Orange County, NC, several times during the Revolutionary War years of 1780-81. I'm sure that influenced migration to and from the county in those years. I have not, however, been able to find if there was any military activity in the area during the War of 1812. Does anyone know of a source/s that would indicate if the British again 'tramped through' the counties that made up old Orange County during their march on Washington, D.C.??? Again, I would assume that danger, or the aftereffects of such a march, would have influenced migration - or at the very least, the quality of life for those in the northern counties of North Carolina. I appreciate your help, Jane ==== NCORANGE Mailing List ==== Larry Noah - lrnoah@bigfoot.com - Listowner - NCORANGE mailing list Orange Co, NC USGenWeb site is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncorange
