    3. Subj: LANGRELL, FITZGERALD, BALDWIN Date: 12/19/97 To: NCOrange-L@rootsweb Hello all: I have been sitting on the sidelines enjoying the messages posted to the list. Especially those that provide some historical fact or fiction. I am looking for information about the above families. Especially interested in the following: Curtis Langerl/Langrell/Langurl, etc., etc. who was listed on p. 154, 1790 Salisbury Dist., Guilford County, N.C. census. Curtis was next door to his step-brother William Fitzgerald. James Loingile, who witnessed the Will of Joel Johnson in 1831 in Guilford County, N.C. NANCY LANGREL/LANGURL who was in the 1820 Rockingham County, North Carolina, census. Lots of Pritchett families near by. A William Langville m. Nancy Currant in 1805 and a James Langrell m. another Nancy related to Ross and Todd families. Both were married in Maryland. Will appreciate any information or clues about these folks. Thanks again for all the interesting tidbits. 2. Cathey1229
    3. Hello- I am interested in finding the area where my anscestor would have lived in Guilford Co. William KILLINGSWORTH, Mark KILLINGSWORTH, and a William KILLINGSWORTH Sr., should all have lived in the same area northeast of Greensboro. The elder William bought land from James COOTS in Jan. 1797 (G.D. 10:10) : 100 acres on the north side of Reedy Fork Cr. In 1818, he sold it to (son?), Mark. In 1822 Mark and Wm. Jr. are neighbors. In 1831 Wm. KILLINGSWORTH Jr., sold 16 acres of Inherited land to James (St. Patrick?) of Rockingham Co. and James Faulk near their mill formerly the HEADWATER of Reedy Fork and on ponded water. It looks to me like the headwater of the Reedy Fork is in Alamance Co., just as the Reedy Fork meets the Haw River. Perhaps someone in your area who knows local history could give me a better idea where this would have been. Also, I would be interested in what Baptist Churches may have existed in that area between 1790 and 1845. 1. [NCORANGE-L] Re: Lists of Burials in NC/SC Cemetaries
    2. Elizabeth Whitaker
    3. It's important to be aware of the fact that published cemetery surveys of counties do not necessarily include *all* cemeteries in that county. (Here in South Carolina, most counties have been surveyed or surveys are in progress.) If you use the WPA cemetery surveys, what cemeteries were surveyed depended upon how much the WPA supervisor for that county decided to allocate for cemetery surveys out of his total budget. (These were for burials before 1914.) Some counties' cemeteries were apparently not surveyed at all. In general, the closer the cemetery was to the county seat, the more likely it is that the cemetery was surveyed by the WPA. 3. When posting cemetery listings, please give the source of your information. If quoting from a book, give the author's name and publication date. If the author got the records from someone else, please indicate. Even on unpublished, privately transcribed records the name (and especially dates) can be important. Other sources can be church records and even minister's notes. If you are the one transcribing, it is very helpful to note the condition of the tombstone. Remember, cemetery records are not always accurate. The stone could have been placed, or replaced years after the actual burial. Of course if the stone is in a language other that English note should be made of that. I have at least one ancestor who was "buried" in more than one cemetery. In a published genealogy by a respected author and published in 1984 the ancestor was in one cemetery. However, the author (himself since deceased) gave no source for his information. I have searched what records I have for that cemetery and could not find this ancestor in them. A few years after this book was published another descendant found what he believes to be the original stone in another cemetery. He took a tracing of the stone which was in German. In this case the individual tromping the cemetery seems a more reliable source than the published author.
